LESLIE H. JUSTICE, OF MGMINNVILLE, TENNESSEE, ASSIGNTOR 0F ONE-HALF WILL F. STO'RY, JR., OE SPARTA, TENNESSEE.
Janna NETED STATES PATENT OFFHCE;
CLOTHESLINE.
Application filed. August 28, 1922. Seriall 'No. 584,830,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LnsLIn H. JUSTICE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mc- Minnville, in the county of Warren and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Clothesline, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a clothes line and has for its principal object to provide a structure of this nature which will do away with the necessity of the use of ordinary clothes pins for hanging clothes to the line.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a clothes line of this nature including a plurality of links each of which is constructed with means whereby it may be engaged with clothes for holding the same in engagement therewith.
Another important object of the inven- 'tion is to provide a line of this nature which will be simple and eflicient in construction,
reliable in operation, inexpensive to manufacture, durable, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
lVith the above and numerous otherobjects in view, as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is an elevation of the clothes line embodying my invention, showing the same in use,
Figure 2 is a detailed elevation of a link thereof, and
Figure 3 is a detailed section taken substantially on the line 3-8 of Figure 2 looking to the left.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the clothes line includes a pluarm 1 having a hooked loop 2 at one end and a connecting loop 3 at its other end upon which is mounted the arm 4 disposed so as to project in the same general direction with the arm 1. It is to be understood that,
the links are formed from a spring wire and that the arm 4 normally tends to diverge from the arm 1. The free end of the arm 4 has an angular-extension 5 which terminates 1n 2. hooked loop 6 disposed in a plane at right angles to the plane of the major portion of the link and engages the arm 1' adjacent its looped end 2.. A ring or coil 7 is disposed about the arms 1 and 4t and movable longitudinally thereon. A; corner 8 of a piece of clothing 9 is adapted to be dis posed between the arms 1 and l and the ring or loop 7 may be drawn toward the corner 8 so that the arms 1 and 4 will efficiently clamp the corner of the clothing 9 ilzherebetween so that it may be hung from the It is to be understood that the links may be connected together by having the hooked loop 2 engaged with the connecting loop 3 as is illustrated in Figure 1. Of course as many of these links may be used as may be necessary and they will do away altogether with the necessity of using clothes pins.
The loop 6 frictionally engages the arm 1 and will hold the arms 1 and 4 in engagement with the piece of clothing 9 while the ring 7 is being pushed into place. If desired the ring 7 may be dispensed with.
Although I have described my invention with some degree of particularity, it is to be understood that numerous changes in thedetails of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is 5- i as a new article of manufacture, a link of a clothes line including an arm, a second arm formed on the first arm and extending in the same general direction therewith, the free end of the second arm provided with an extension diverging from the first arm, a hook loop formed on the free end of the extension to be engageable with the first arm,
7 a hook formed on the end of the first arm, rality of links each of which consists of an and a loop formed at the connection of the two arms. Y
' In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
