To all whom t may concern:
Bc it known that I, FRANK BRABSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates in general to door locks of the type comprising two longitudin-ally alined bolts or locking rods secured to a door or the llke to cooperate with keepers on the door frame, and means including a knob or handle arranged between said bolts for simultaneously moving said bolts longitudinally in opposite directions to engage with or disengage from said keepers to lock or unlock the door. The bolts of such looks are several feet long and extend the full length of a door or swinging window, and much diliiculty is usually encountered in applying known locks ot this character to a door due to the fact that the bolts must be first secured to the operating mechanism or knob and the'whole lock as an entity secured to the door. Two men are usually required for this purpose, one to steady and position the device while the other astens the same in position.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a locking mechanism of the character described embodying novel and improved ieatures of construction whereby the mechanism can be easily assembled, located on and secured to a door piece by piece by one man.
Another object is to provide such a lockving mechanism embodying novel and improved operating mechanism :tor the bolts which can be easily and quickly positioned grid secured on a door and connected to the olts.
Further objects are to provide a locking c in which like numerals of reference designate the same parts throughout the several views,

In the specific embodiment of the inven tion shown on the drawings, the reference character A designates the operating mechanism of the door lock embodying the invention which cooperates with locking bolts or rods B arranged in substantially longitudinal alinement to slide longitudinally of the door in guides C, said bolts cooperating with keepers D secured in the frame ofthe door. When the bolts B are in engagement with the keepers D the door is locked, and when the bolts are moved longitudinally by the operating mechanism A out of engagement with the keepers D the door is unlocked.
The operating mechanism includes a base section l preferably formed of sheet metal and having substantially centrally of its length oppositely disposed upturned flan es 2. Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:

A door lock including a longitudinally movable bolt, an operating mechanism for actuating said bolt, a housing for said mechanisni including a base section formed of sheet metal and having prongs stamped therefrom to position the section on a door, and a top section adapted to telescope over said base section to enclose said operating mechanism.

A door lock including a longitudinally movable bolt having a rack at one end thereof, an' operating mechanism housing including a base section formed of sheet metal having prongs stamped therefrom to initially position the section on a door to underlie said bolt, a top section adapted to telescope over said base section, an operating handle journaled in said top section, a pinion on said handle to engage said rack to operate said bolt, and means for securing said top section to the door.

A door lock including two longitudinally alined and movable bolts each having a rack at the end adjacent the other bolt, each of said bolts having a shoulder adjacent the inner end of its rack to engage the outer end of the other rack to limit movement of said bolts toward each other, an operating mechanism housing including a base section adapted to be initially applied to a door to indicate the proper position of said racks, said base section being formed with an opening, a top section to telescope over said base section, an operating handle journaled intermediate its ends in said top section, a pinion on said handle to engage said racks to operate said bolts, and means for securing said top section to the door With the pinion end of said handle engaging said opening in the base section to form a second bearing for said handle.

A door lock including a longitudinally movable bolt formed to be engaged by and cooperate With an operating mechanism for moving the bolt after the bolt has been initially applied to a door, an operating mechanism for the bolt constructed to be applied to a door after said bolt is positioned thereon to engage and cooperate with said bolt to move the latter, a housing for said operating mechanism including a base section adapted to be applied to the door and underlie said bolt, a top Section in which said operating mechanism is mounted adapted to telescope over said base section, said base section serving to locate and guide said top section to cause proper engagement of said operating mechanism with said bolt, and means for securing said top section to the door.
5, A door lock including a longitudinally movable bolt, an operating mechanism for actuating said bolt, a housing for said mechanism including a base section formed with means to initially position the same on a door, a top section adapted to snugly tit over said base section, and means for positively securing said top section to the door whereby said base section may be positioned on a door independently of said top section and said top section positively secure said base section to the door.

A door lock including a longitudinally movable bolt having a rack at one end thereof, an operating mechanism housing including a base section 'formed with means to initially position the same on a door to underlie said bolt, said base section having an opening therein, a top section adapted to snugly telescope over said base section, an operating handle journaled intermediate its ends in said top section and having an end portion to tit said opening in the base section as said top section is applied over said base section, a pinion on said handle to engage said rack to operate the bolt, and means for positively securing said top section to the door, whereby said base section may be positioned on the door independently of said top section and guide said top section to cause proper engagement of said pinion with said rack and said top section positively secures said base section againstmovement on the door.

A door lock including tWo longitudinally alined and movable bolts each having a rack at the end adjacent the other bolt, an operating mechanism housing including a sheet metal base section` adapted to be initially applied to a door and having opposite longitudinal upstanding flanges to indicate the proper location of and guide said racks, a top section adapted to snugly telescope over said base section, an operating handle journaled in said top section, a pinion on saidhandle to engage both said racks for operating said bolts, said flanges guiding said top section to cause proper engagement of said pinion with said rack, and means for securing said top section on the door, whereby Said base section may be initially applied to a door independently of said top section to serve as a guide in assembling the lock and said top section positively secure said base section to the door.
