Be it known that I, HERMAN C. EGGERT, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Processes in the Manufacture of Metal Signs, Tablets, Etc, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a process in the ianufacture of metal signs, tablets, and the like, wherein an etched background effect may be given to the final product.
Furthermore, the type from which the sign matter is to be prepared, are assembled in a manner known as the offset pastel, except that for the purpose of the present invention, the assembling arrangement is directly the reverse of that in such system.
In carrying out the present method, the form is made up, as in the ordinary chase used in a printing process, and the type assembled in a manner known as the offset pastel, except that for the purpose of this invention, the nick of the type are set down instead of up as in the offset pastel process. After the form is completed, a wax impression is made thereof, but prior to impressing the wax matrix onto the form, the impression of a sanded surface, as an ordinary piece of sand paper, is made on the wax matrix. The matrix with the sand paper impression is then ready to receive an impression from the form, and this impression is m ado so as to carry the characters and letters thereof into the matrix at a greater depth. than that of the sanded impression surface.
Following the formation of the matrix, the final product is formed by the well known electrotyping process, which need not be specifically described herein.
For convenience in understanding the process, the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Claims: 1. The method herein described of forming metal signs and tablets by the electrotyping process with a surface imitation of etching, consisting in preparing the form and matrix, impressing a sanded body into the matrix, and then impressing the form in the matrix, and producing the final product HERMAN C.
