Description

Oct. 2s. i924. L v 1,513,448
R. F. DU COIN ELECTRIC SWITCH Filed March 51. 1921 Patented Oct. 28, 1924.
UNITED STATES RN F. DU COIN,` or CAMDEN, New JERSEY.
ELECTRIC SVJITCH.
Application led March 31, 1921.
To all 10710111, it muy concern.'
Be it known that I, RN F. DU COIN, citizen of the United States, residing at Camden, in the co-unty of Camden. and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Switches, of which the following is a specifica-tion.
This invention relates to an improved toot operated switch for ala-rm systems and seeks, among other obje-cts, to provide a switch which will be positive in its operation and which, when closed, will be held closed so as to effect the continuous sounding of an ,15. alarm until the switch is manually opened.
Other and incidental objects will appear hereinafter.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved switch, and
Figure 2 is a fragmentary side elevation of the switch, parts being broken away and illustrated in section.
In carrying the invent-ion into el'ect, I 5 employ a base block 11i near one end of which is bolted an upstanding U-shaped post or bracketl 15, the sides 'of the bracket being bent to pro-vide laterally directed lugs 1G seating against the upper face of the block and receiving the bolts therethrough. Mounted to rock upon the bracket is a. foot lever .1T received between the sides 'of the bracket and extending through said sides and through the inner end portion of the lever is a. pivot bolt 18. Near its outer end the lever is formed with a halt turn and is offset downwardly toward the base block to provide a horizontally disposed toot piece 19 adapted to abut the block for limiting 40 the lever in its downward swinging movement and formed in the upper edge ot the lever near its inner end is a notch defining a shoulder 20 disposed to cooperate with the bracket for limiting the lever in its upward swinging movement. Suitably mounted upon the base block beneath the lever 17 is a. casing 21 in which are arranged coact contacts 2.2. and projecting; up

wardly through the casing is a button 23 sustained by one of said contacts. At its upper end, this button is formed with a notch or slot 23 freely receiving the lever 17 therein so that, as will be seen, the lever may be swung downwardly for depressing the button and flexing one of the contacts 22 into engagement with the other of said contacts for closing a circuit therethrough. Screwed or otherwise secured to the block 14.- between the post 15 and casing 21 is a. clutch member 24 having a. pair of coacting upst-anding resilient clutch tinge-rs 25 disposed to receive the lever therebetween so that when the lever is depressed or swung downwardly said ingers will automatically engage the lever for holding the lever so depresse-d and consequently maintaining the switch contacts 22 closed. As brought out in Figure 2, the block 14 is provided with an opening so that wires in circuit with an alarm may be readily connected with the contact 22. Accordinglf, since, when the lever 17 is depressed for closing the switch, the lever will be held in depressed position, the alarm will continue to sound until the lever is ,manually released.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In an ala-rm system, the combination of a base, a circuit closing push button mounted thereon, al bracket upstanding from the base, a foot lever pivoted upon said bracket to extend across the push button and movable for depressing the button, the lever being otlset to define a toot piece extending in close spaced relation to the base and engageable therewith for limiting the lever when the button is depressed whereby to prevent crushing of the button, and a clutch member upstanding from the base beneath the lever between said bracket and the button and having coacting resilient clutch tlngcrs to receive the lever therebetween trctionally holding the lever when swung to depress the button.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature.
