To all whom it'may concern: 1 Be it known that 1, JOHN P. KIN a citizen of the United States, residing at 'Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Braiding Machines, of. which the following is a specification. i r This invention relates to improvements in braiding machines for-braiding cords, fab-- rics, and the like, and has for one of its objects to provide an improved braiding machine c able rate ofspeed.
Another objectof the invention is to it;
v'ide an improved machine wherein the lines of travel 'ofthe carrier are straight from one point to another thus reducing the triotion. and lessening the wear on the running parts giving greater durability and materially reducing the c'ostof repairs. -h

The outer port1on26 of each of these quoit plates is rounded to cooperate with the correspondingly rounded portion 27 of the track-plate and a portionof this curved ing adapted to cooperate withthe adjacent opposite edge of the end quoits thereby providing straight line raceways across the track-plate crossing each other at substantially 90 angles. In order to provide bobbin carriers for these raceways I have constructed a carrier with a bodyor shoe portion having upper and lower flanges 31 and 32 connected by a} web 38 which web, as'illustrated in Figure 3, is provided with rounded or curved end a bearing portions 34: adapted to engage the outer and innerstraight side walls 35 and- 36, the inner side wall being preferably grooved as at 37 'for a portion of its width outer surface 2'7 of the raceway when pass ing around the curvesfat the ends of the racewayand the web connecting these curved'end portionsis provided with both to receive the overhanging portion 26 of the outer circular edge of the quoit plate thereby providing a bearing surface 38 which cooperates with those of the overhanging carrier in a vertical position while being driven rapidly about the circular portion of the raceway and by this construction it will be seen that although the inner face of this web portion is recessed, stlll a large section of the straight portion of the web remains for guiding the carrier while passing along the straight portion of the raceway'thereb'y obtaining the maximum bearing surface both.

In a braiding machine, the combination with a track-plate -having a raceway with curved terminals, of albobbin carrier proone of the side walls of said web intermediate its ends, for a portion less than'its en tire length having its bearing surfaces located in two different planes ,to slidably engage a fixed corresponding portion of the I curved terminal walls.
