Parallel machines; knitied fabrics; striping, plating, and making shot ejects. - Plating-thread carriers 1, Fig. 4, are provided with two ducts 3, 4 separated by a rib 5, which causes a vertical displacement of the threads and allows a constant relationship between them during each traverse, thus ensuring perfect plating. When the movement of the carrier 1 is reversed, the position of the threads is also reversed, and a single-course stripe effect is obtained. Another form of thread-carrier, Fig. 7, has two oblique slots 3<a>. 4<a> for the threads, and the under surface 5<a> may be flat or bevelled. When the carrier is travelling in the direction of the arrow the threads take up the positions shown, and when the carrier reverses, the threads move to the opposite ends of the slots 3<a>, 4<a>, thus reversing their positions relative to the needles and producing the single-course stripe effect. When ribbed goods are knitted, the plain needles draw one thread while the rib needles draw the other thread, as shown in Fig. 14. Instead of being fixed, the carrier 1 may be mounted on a swivel or adjustable arm, and may be moved by hand to effect a change in the knitting. The invention is applicable to purl machines, in which case the rib 5 is arranged obliquely between the ducts 3, 4 and has a depression on either side.
