Be it known that l, RUSSELL (l. Lern, a citizen ofthe United States of America, residing at Columbus, in `the county Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Perpetual Calendars, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates generally to calendars and more particularly to perpetual calendars, my object being thel provision of a construction and arrangement constituting a perpetual calendar and capable of easy understanding as well as ready manipulation. v

A further object ofthe invention is the provision of a simple and inexpensive device of this character adapted especially as a wall calendar, with or without illustrations cornmonly employed to make a device of this character an attractive wall decoration, and with or without advertisements and other printed matterI also commonly applied to devices of this nature.

With these general objects in view, the further objects and the resulting advantages of my invention will be plain from the following description of the construction and arrangement shown particularly in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and in whichQ Figure 1 is a front elevation showing my improved calendar,

Referring now to these figures my invention proposes a calendar which includes a support or backing 10, consisting for instance of a rectangular section of cardboard or other material, preferably hinged or otherwise flexibly attached as at 11 to a card or similar hanger 12 by `means of which the calendar as a whole may be attached to the wall in such a way as to permit the support or backing 10 of the calendar to be raised for the exposure of its reverse face on which it is contemplated that suitable instructions may be imprinted to enable the user to readily understand and manipulate the movable parts.

For the purpose of connection of the calendar. as a whole theicard or hanger 12 to which the support 10 is connected as above, may havean upper opening 13 `for the reception of a nail or other wall penetrating member, this card or other hanger providing ample space for the reception of attractive pictorial features with or without advertising mattei'. l i

According to my invention thesupport 10 as seen particularly in. Figure 5, hasupper and lower parallel horizontal slots 14 and 15l and is provided with series,ofdesignations adyacent to these slots, the designations 16 above the upper slot 14 referring to differenti colors while the designations 17 'abover the n ends and which serves to movably holdvthe horizontally adjustable indicator 21 consisting of a rectangular section of cardboard on' like material having imprinted orV otherwise fixed upon its forward surface the days of the month as indicated at 22 and particuy larly shown inFigure 1. This indicator has at its opposite-sides spaced vertical slots 23 through which'the guide or holding strip 2() is extended. In addition to its designations 22 of the days of the month, the indicator 21 y has an upper portion which covers the month designations 17 of the support 10 and is provided with a cut out portion 24 by means of which selected spaces of the month designations 17 may be exposed to view. The indicator is furthermore provided with an elongated slot 25 below its cut out portion 24 and immediately above the designations 22 of the days of the month before referred to.

Cooperating with the indicator 21 and also with the support 10A is an elongated relatively narrow slide 26, which ris positioned horizontally across the front face of the support 10 rearwardly of the indicator 21 and in line with the slot 25 of the latter, the slide 25 bearing designations of the days of the week as at 27 and having an upstanding right angular extension 28 intermediate its ends as particularly seen in Figure A il (l vslide`2t acts substantially in a similar manner in connection with the color or year designations 16 of the support.

In practice the years will be listed out uponv the rear face of the support 10, each "with a color designation opposite the same and when it is desired to properly set the calendar itis simply necessary for the user to refer thereto and then shift the slide 26 horizontally until vits extension 28 Aoverlies the particular color indicating the desired vear. "The indicator 2l is then shifted until the desired month is exposed through the cut out portion 24 and the calendar is then set ready for use it being obvious that it may be employed after setting like the ordinary calendar and that it may befurther used to :find the dayy of the week or the date of the month wherever the year, month and day or date respectively are known. 'My invention thus proposes a perpetual calendar of the wall type which may be readily finished as ornamental as it is useful and which is well adapted to the carrying out of the objects lfirst above stated.

l claim:

l. A perpetual calendar including a support having fixed year indicating means and month designations thereon in separate horizontal lines and having horizontal' guide slots, a guide member fixed at its ends to the support and extending horizontally thereacross, an indicator shiftable across the support on said guide member, having slots receivingl the latter, and having thereon designations of the days of the month, and a slide shiftable horizontally on the support at the rear of the said indicator and exposed through a slot in the latter, having thereon week day designations and having a portion thereof extending into7 and movably guided by, the slots of the support and acting as a pointer in cooperation with the year indicating means of the support, the said indicator y having means acting as a pointer in connection with the month, indicating means of the support.

2. A perpetual calendar including a support having iixed year indicating means and month designations thereon in separate horizontal lines and having horizontal guide slots, a guide member fixed at its ends to the support and extending horizontally thereacross, an indicator' shit'table across the support on said guide member, having slots receiving the latter, and having thereon designations of the days of 'the month, and a slide sl'iiftable horizontally on the support at the rear of the said indicator and exposed through a slot in the latter, having thereon week day designations and having an angular extension thereo'i.E movably disposed 'through the slots of the support and cooperating with the year indicating means of the support,` said indicator having a portion thereof normally covering themonth'desig'- ations of the support, provided with a'cut out portion whereby selected month indicating means may be exposed.

3. il perpetual calendar including a supporting member having thereon fixedyear indicating means and month designations, an indicator' bodily shiftable across the said support having means acting as a pointer in cooperation with the month designations of the support and also having thereon designations of the days of a month, and a slide co operating' with said indicator and shif-table independently thereof, having week day designations and vhaving means acting as a pointer in cooperation with the year indicating means of the support.`
