HAND GRAB.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that VIRGIL M. BARTLETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Silver Point, in the county of Putnam and State of Tennessee, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand Grabs, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in grapples and is more particularly adapted to a hand grab which may be easily and quickly placed in use in order to move the object to which it is applied.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a hand grab of the above mentioned character, which is of such construction as to enable either of the hooks or both of them to be used as the case necessitates.

A further object is to provide a hand grab of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and further well adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.

Other objects and advantages of this in vention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same,'

In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numerals 1 and 2 designate a pair of crossed arms which are secured together at their inner section by any suitable fastening means such as is shown at 3 in the drawing. The outer ends of the arms 1 and 2, respectively, are provided with suitable apertures through which is adapted to extend the bolt 4 for the purpose of supporting thereon and between the arms the handle 5 which is preferably formed of wood.

The inner free ends of the crossed arms 1 and 2 are slightly enlarged and the purpose thereof will be presently described. A pair of grab hooks or

The enlarged portions are provided with registering apertures for the purpose of receiving the bolts 10 whereby a pivotal connection is formed between the inner ends of the grab hooks and the inner ends of the crossed arms.

The grab hooks or lovers are curved inwardly and are formed so as to provide sharpened outer points 11 whereby the object to be moved may be easily grasped and held so as to prevent the hand grab from slipping.

The use of my grab hooks is unlimited in its scope and is especially adapted for use by farmers in the handling of logs, boxes, or other devices and it will readily be seen from the construction above described and shown that a device has been provided which is very simple in construction and easily actuated. It is to be understood that if it is desired to only use one of the grab hooks or levers, the other hook may be swung upwardly into an inoperative position adjacent one of the arms and the person handling the tool may readily hold the lever in its inoperative position, at the same time the handle is grasped.

It will also be understood that by providing a hand grab or grapple of the above mentioned character, greater leverage is obtained than by the use of the ordinary grappies now known.

From the foregoing description of the construction of my improved device, it will be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive and eflicient means for carrying out the objects of the invention, and while I have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion, and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: l

1. A hand grab comprising a pair of crossed arms secured together at their intersection, a handle supported at the outer end of said arms, and grab hooks pivotally connected to the inner ends of said arms adjacent said intersection.

2. A hand grab comprising a pair of crossed arms secured together at their intersection, a handle supported between the outer ends of said arms, the inner ends of said arms being enlarged, a pair of grab hooks having their inner ends enlarged and adapted to cooperate With the aforementioned enlarged inner ends means extending through said enlarged portions of said hooks and arms respectively for pivotally-supporting the hooks on the arms, the outer ends of 10 said hooks extending inwardly and terminating in sharp points.
