Be it known that HERMAN L. GREVE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mailing Wrappers,

of which the'following is a specification.

My invention relates tov packages and l" especially to that class of packages in 'which a wrapper is used which is adapted to be used in transporting articles by express or mail- The object of my invention is to provide 5 a wrapper for holdin perishable products such as freshly cut owers, young plants such as cabbage plants, strawberry plants, etc. raised by plant growers and retailed to small home gardeners or articles which would be injured by moisture, in fact a water proof or semi water proof wrapper which comprises a stiff casing to prevent the contents being crushed and a comparatively thin and practically water proof lining sheet which incloses the contents as well as the stift' casing when the package is complete. In view of the stiff quality of the casing portion my invention discloses a way by which the same is formed in order that it may be wrapped about the contents of the package without the use of tools.

A further object of my invention is to provide a wrapper that can be lengthened by combining a number of wrapper units to form the complete package of the desired length.

Referring to the drawings which form a part of this invention,

My wrapper comprises two parts, a sti' casing portion A and a comparatively flexible wrapping portion B made of water proof or nearly water proof lmaterial such as tough paper having a coating or lining of material of non-hygroscopic material that is practically water proof for the purpose described. This coating which 'extends entirely over the inner surface of the sheetB may be made of rubber'dissolved in gasoline which setsland forms a tough flexible coatv'ing' when the solvent has evaporated', or ymay be of any other suitable material. Thev two portions A and B are cementedy together by a suitable gum D which entirely covers the surface of portion VA adjacent portion B. After the portions have been cemented together with the casing portion on the outside ofportion B, the wrapper is bent into a curved form illustrated in -Figuresk l and 2 by' passing it between rollers similar yto those used informing stove pipe, thus giving it therequired form. l

I prefer to make the casing A of stiif cardboard material as it is light in weight and cheap in cost. Y

It will be observed that the portion B extends beyond the ends of the portion A at the sides and top, the top portion B being wrapped over the portion A to a more or less extent depending on the bulk of the contents wrapped.

In Figure 3 a package is shown comprising two wrapper units C and C respectively. I/Vhen used in this way the adjacent ends of the two units are placed together in overlapping relation as indicated at D and D resting within the end of the casing portion of unit C and the end D resting ,over the adjacent end of the casing portion of the unit C and thus when the two units are wrapped together over the contents of the package'they are held snugly together, and

'may further be secured by a longitudinally extending cord E if desired. r

In use, the contents such as freshly cut iiowers are laid in the space F and the wrapper rolled into cylindrical form thereover, thus bringing the water proof lining in close contact and thereafter the ends G-G respectively are tucked within the casing portion A thus completely inclosing the contents. The water proof qualities of the wrapper thus prevent evaporation of the moisture of the flowers and at the same time prevent any moisture from same injuring any other mail matter with which it may be in contact.

It is obvious that delicate silks, laces, etc. may be mailed in this wrapper with comouter Casing of curved form adapted to be rolled into rCylindrical form and an inner sheet having a Water resisting component Vand being :of such size as to be adapted to be rolled over the outer surface of said oas- Y ing, said sheet being cemented to said oasing.
