To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, PINKNEY l?. FRAZER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in StripperBoXes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stripper boxes for foundry purposes and has for its object to hold together in relative position, the refractory materials constituting a single or a nest of molds, preventing the casting from scabbing when the metal is poured, and to overcome the strain of the moltenv metal, eliminating the distortion of corners and the injuring of the mold.
Another object of my invention is to provide a temporary holding mechanism of such a nature as to be easily tripped or released at the intended time and being of a simple and efficient structural formation and combination of parts in a combined unit, adapted for ready and substantial connection.
Other and incidental objects will appear as the description proceeds and in the drawing wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views: Invthe drawings,

The essential features in foundry practice for the impression of patterns, consist mainly in the maintenance of the parting lines to hold the same together in a relative position to prevent unsound castings. The present methods prevailing to obtain these objects have proved inadequate in their provision for linear maintenance and it often occurs that the frame parts mainly used in molding operations and constituting the most important appliances, had a sideway springing tendency injuring the mold.
I have overcome these obstacles in my device by constructing a stripper box, especially adapted for multiple castings, comprising a connected main frame consisting of parallel spaced side members 1, Q, 8 and 4, said side members being composed ofl quadrantal sections, each section on the opposite side being hinged to one another, as shown at 5 and 6, comprising a composite construction adjustable as a unit.
Located at a position approximately midway on the side holding frame portions 1, 2, 3 and 4, are outwardly projecting, longitudinally disposed clutch members 7 of a beveled formation having theiriecluced portions 8 of said bevel 7 located at the upper terminals et the side holding frame members 1, Q, 3 and 4, and being integral with the same. Meeting in edgewise abutting contact and in angular alignment with the clutch member 7, are brackets 9 with looped portions 1() rigidly fastened to the side'frame members 1, 2, 3 and 4, said brackets 9 projecting horizontally over the reduced portion 8 of the clutch member 7 in the sufficient space in 'the internal projection to receive the slidable interfitting member 11 yin its ascending position indicating the point of termination.
The slidable interiitting member 11 consists of rectangular bar arms constructed and arranged to kcompletely embrace the frame portions 1, 2, 3 and 4 and slidably engage the outer surface of the beveled clutch member 7 simultaneously in the same direction along parallel paths and in a plane at right angles to each other.
Briefly stated, the operation of my device is as follows:
The oppositely disposed Vvhinged. frame members 1, 3 and 2, 4 with their interconnecting partition edges 1G and 17 are wedged together to form a rectangular shaped container. rlhe compression member 11 being angularly shaped and in parallel alignment with the side holding frame portions 1` 2, 3 and 4, is then dor-.inwardly pressed in edge abutting contact with theV outer beveled surface of the clutch member i' holding the frame portions 1, 2., 3 and 4 in tenacious engagement with each other` so that the cope 13 abutting with its inner surface against the the drag 14 can receive, through its refractory material, the impression of the pat tern, holding the parting lines against linear or angular' displacement, and allow the molten material, when poured into the gatestitch or basin 15 to completely fill all contours of the pattern without distortiwir any lines ot the same.
In disengaging the trame portion-s ot' the stripper boX from an operative into an inoperative position, the compression i'nen'ilier ll is pressed forward ascending against the bracket 9 and allowing the trame portions to disengage the edge abutting partitions 'i6 and 17. The side holding traine portions l, 2, 3 and 4 can then bev collapsed and the compression member l1 removed.v
In Fig. 2, a modiiication in the structural elements of the stripper' boi; are shown where the hinged parte 5 and 5 are bracket stop devices 9 are omitted, having the edge ahnt ting terminals oic the side holding` frame portions l, Q, 3 and 4 in rigid engagement with each other to receive the compression me ber l1 in the same iniictionary nanner as aforedescribed.

What I claim is:
