' LEON GSCHWIND, OF
CATCH Y Application fi led July 18,
To all whom it may concern: 7 Be it known that I, LEON GsoHwmD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Youngstown, county of Mahoning, State of 6 Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Catch Basins, of which the following is a specification. ,This invention relates to improvements in catch basins. V
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide an improved catch basin for storm sewers and the like which may be readily adjusted to facilitate connection to the sewer and adjustment to the street grade.
Second, to provide an improved catch basin which may be readily cleaned and kept in a sanitary condition.
Third, to provide an improved catch basin for storm sewers having an effectivetrap 80 which is not likely to become clogged.
Fourth, to provide an. improved catch basin in which the parts are formed so that they may be easily manufactured and handled in sections to be set up or assembled at 25 the place of installation.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention byv the devices and means described in-the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
i A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a plan view ofmy improved catch basin connected to a conduit, the adjustment of thebasin to-meet'conditions of installation being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. II is a vertical transverse section on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Figs. I, III and IV.
Fig. III is a vertical central section from front to rear on a line corresponding to line 3*3 of Figs. I and II.
Fig. IV isa rear perspective view of the bottom section of the basin with certain rem movable parts mounted therein.
5 and in closed position by full lines.
YOUNGSTOWN, oino.
BASIN.
1923. Serial No. 652,366.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, my improved catch basin, in the embodimentillustrated, comprises a bottom section 1, an intermediate-section 2. and a top section 3. The bottom section 1 ispreferabIy cylindrical as illustrated' andis provided with a transversely disposed channel-like trap passage 5. This extension 4 extends across the bottom. of section 1 and at the rear and at the front thereofsee Figs. III "and IV.
The bottom section is'provided with an inwardly facing joint shoulder 6 receiving the coacting shoulder 7 of-the intermediate section 2 which is cylindrical to correspond to the body portion ofthe bottom. The sections 1 and 2 are provided with opposed ears 8. and 9 respectively adapted to receive the couplingbolts 10. v
The' intermediate section is provided'with an extension 11 at the rear complementing the rear end of the extension 4 of the-bottom section and providing a trap inlet opening. The intermediate section 2 is also provided with a front extension 12 complement ing the front end 13 ofthe extension 4 pro-' viding a discharge connection for the basin to which the sewer pipe or conduit 14 may be connected. These parts are also provided with the coacting ears 8 and 9. I
The intermediate section has an inwardly projecting "flange 15 at its upper edge provided with an upwardly facing groove 16. Thetop section 3 has a cylindrical'bottom may be rotatively adjusted to properly posisoas to bring its discharge in proper relationto the sewer or "conduit 14 permitting a direct connection or obviating elbows in the conduit.
The top section means of the coupling lugs 18 engaging under the flange 16, the top section being provided with ears 19 to receive the clamping bolts 20 by means of which the lugs are clamped against the underside of the flange.
To further facilitate adjustment the curb grate 21 is supported by a frame 22 which has end and front walls constituting extion its curb inlet-opening 17 or, in other n words, topermit the positioning of the basin is preferably secured by ream:
tensions for the walls of the top section,' the end walls being provided with slots 23 for the bolts 24: so that the member 22 is adj ustably secured in position. This is of ad-, vantage in the original setting of the basin and also, in the event of paving or re-surfacing the street or settling of the basin or the line, adjustment may be made as cnditions require.
The top section is provided witha cover 25 having hinge lugs 26 engaging holes 2? in the hinge plates 28 secured "onthe inner side of the top section-see Figs; HI and V. This permits the removal of the cover when desired.
To facilitate cleanin the trap, the trap passage is provided wit a removable cover plate 29 resting in the shoulders 30.see Fig, H. At the front end of this plate is a re-v movable passage wall plate 31 secured by the removable bolts 32 and having lugs 34:; overlapping the front end of tliepl ate 29. The trap inlet grate 85 is provided with lugs 36 overlapping the rear end of this plate and is remiovably secured in position by the bolt 37 passed through lugs 88 on the top section and the lug 39' on tl ie intermediate section. his lug 38 can only be utilized when the top section is positioned as shown, in full lines in the drawing. When the top section is otherwise adjusted, the lug 38 is swung out of alignment My "improved catch basin is easily kept in a sanitary condition, is very easily installed and may be adjusted, as stated, to meet a changed condition of thecurb' level such as is occasioned by re-surfacing the street.
I have illustrated and described an embodiment which I 'hjavefound very practical. l have not attempted to illustrate or describe other modifications or adaptations as l believe thev disclosure made will enable those skilled in the art to which my invention relates to embody or adapt the same asmay be desired.
Having thus described my invention, what claim as new and desire to secure Letters Patent, is:
