- which the following is a specification.
This invention generically appertains to plows, but it more especially comprehends an improved beam construction.
One object of this inventionis to provide a plow and beam construction having means for adjusting the beam -to relatively change the direction of the plow point to regulate the depth of the furrow.
Another object of'this invention is to provide means governing the vertical ad ustment of the beam capable of operation by the operator in his normal position at the plow handles.
A further object of this invention is the provision of an improved clevis structure attachable to the free end of the beam for holding the single or double tree and for regulating the side or lateral draft of the plow. I
With these and other ob ects in view, which will become apparent as the descriptlon proceeds, the invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whichlike characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several figures, of which: I

Many efforts have been made in plow con struction to effect regulation of the draft of the plow, that is, depth'of the furrow, as well as the lateral draft or width of the furrow, and many types of beam and clevis construction have been employed to efiect the above purposes. However, with more or less scant success, and it was to overcome the deficiencies of those now in use that I perfected the beam construction and novel adjusting means through the instru- Serial No. 629,878.
mentality of which the principal objects of the invention may be accomplished effectively and expeditiously by the operator while the plow or plows are in motion and with out the necessity of the operator leaving his normal position.
In the illustrated embodiment characterizing this invention there is shown a stock orrstandard A with its lower extremities supporting the usual mold-board 5 and plow point 6 which may be of any standard construction, and also secured to the lower extremities of the stock A are the plow handles 7 which are braced and further secured to the said standard by suitable brace rods 8.
In the present instance, standard A is bifurcated at its upper end providing for wardly and parallelly extending arms 9 con nected at their outer ends by the upstanding integrally formed U-shaped portion 10 forming a continuation of the said arms and together therewith constituting an auxiliary beam structure B. Slightly spaced from the point of bifurcation are the oppositely positioned upstanding ears 11 formed integrally with said arms 9 and centrally apertured, as at 12, for a purpose which will hereinafter more fully appear.
The beam 13 is adapted to extend through the U-shaped member 9, between the auxiliary beam members 10 and is suitably journaled to the upstanding supporting ears 1]. in any well-known manner. Suitably secured to the top surface of beam 13 adjacent its inner end is the longitudinally extending T-shaped rail or track member 1 1, and adaptable for cooperation with the track 1 1 is provided the substantially wedgeshaped slidable block 15, said block having its flat or under surface longitudinally recessed as at 16, said recess conforming in configuration to the T-shaped portion of track 14, so that when the said block is mounted on the track, it may slidably travel the length of the track, and during its normal course is locked thereon against disen gagement by the flanges of the track member. Also mounted on the upper surface of the beam 13 adjacent its inner end, is the perpendicular support 17 centrally apertured and internally threaded to receive the externally threaded rod 18, the inner end of said rod being loosely mounted in the end of block 15, as at 19, and having keyed or otherwise secured to its free end hand- Wheel 20, by means of which the regulator rod 18 is operated.
In order that the beam 13 may be held in its proper position at all times and prevented from sagging when the draft power is relieved, the block 15 is grooved on both sides spaced from its inclined face for cooperation with theinwardly projecting supporting lugs 21 integrally formed on the inner sides of the leg portion of the U-shaped member slightly spaced from the inner surface of the U.
Secured to the outer end of the beam 13 is the clevis structure 0 including the outwardly diverging arms 21 secured ,to the beam by bolts 22 or other suitable fastening means. The outer extremities of the said arms are apertured, as at 23, to receive the anchoring rod 24:, which latter is retaine-d in position by a threaded nut 25. Mounted on the anchoring rod 2 L, intermediate said arms, is positioned the horizontally notched end member 26. Clovis hook 27 is provided with an elongated aperture 28 and adapted to receive and to seat in the desired notch in the end piece 26. The outer or free end of the loop portion of the hook 27 is slotted, as at 29, to receive the catch or tongue 30 p-ivotally mounted therein, as at 31. The outer end of tongue 30 when in normal position is slightly spaced from the outer extremity of the slot and forms a seat for the spring 32, one end of which is adapted to seat against th projection 33 of the tongue 30 normally held diagonally across opening in the hook toprevent disengagement of the single tree, double tree, or other draft attaching means (not shown) when normally positioned in the hook.
The operation of the invention is as follows:
To regulate the lateral or side draft of the plow, it is only necessary to tilt upwardly the hook 27 until the notched edge of the member 26 is in longitudinal alignment with the apex of the opening 28 whereupon the said hook may be positioned in any desired notch of the said member 26 and any desired width of the furrow may thereby be obtained. To regulate the depth of the furrow it is but necessary for the operator to rotate rod 18 which moves block 15 along track 14:, and when said block is moved outwardly the plow point 6 is directed downwardly and the plowing depth thereby increased, and when the block is invention illustrated in the accompanying I V drawings and referred to, in the above descr1pt1on,-as the preferred embodiment, 1s
the most efficientand practical; yet realiz ing the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire to emphasize that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts, may beresorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from or sacrificing any of the principles of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, and without enumerating variations and equivalents, what I desire protected by Letters Patent is as set forth in the following claims: v V

A plow, including a standard embodying an auxiliary beam, a mainbeam coacting with the auxiliary beam andpivoted to the standard, a track mounted on the beam, a block slidable on the track, screw means mounted on one end of the beam for moving the blockon the track, inwardly projecting lugs carried by the auxiliary beam engageable in "slots carried by the said block 7 for holding the said beam in any desired position in its vertical adjustment, and means carried by the free end of the beam to effect its sidewise or lateral adjustment.
2. A plow, including a standard, a beam pivoted to the standard, said standard being apertured to receive said beam, a. track mounted on the'beam, a block adapted for interlocking and slidable engagement with said track, screw means mounted on one" end of the beam for moving the block on the track, inwardly projecting lugs carried by the auxiliary beam engageable in slots carried by the. said block for holding the said beam in any desired position in its vertical ad ustment, and means carried by the free end of the beam to effect its sidewise or lateral adjustment.
