Fountains for Soda-Wafer UNITED I STATES PATENT OEEIcE FREDERICK W.VIESEBROGK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOUNTAIS FOR SODA-WATER, &c.
p Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,922, dated May l2, 1874; application filed April 10,1814.
`tion of iny fountain. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the same.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in forming the base or bottom of a sodafountain with a recess or shoulder for receiving and supporting the body of the fountain, and with a man-hole having a flange for receiving and supporting a cover, which can be securely confined in place for closing the man-hole, in such a manner that thejnnction ofthe man-hole with the surface of the bottom of the fountain will be ilush therewith, and access with the interior of the fountain can be had with ease and facility.
In carrying` out' my invention, I melt a quantity of parafline `in a suitable caldron or vessel, and dip the soda-fountain bodily into the melted mass, so as to bring every portion of the fountain in contact therewith. rlhe fountain, being in a cool state, readily takes 'up and congeals the paraffine, which forms in a layer on its inner and outer sides or surfaces. This layer constitutes a proof or protection against the chemical action of the carbonic GAsE A.
acid of the soda or other water on the metal of the fountain, and vice versa, while the paraifine itself, being tasteless,.odorless, and insoluble in most all known liquids, is without effect upon the water in the fountain.
In the drawing, the letter A designates the cylinder or body of my fountain; B is the` bottom, and C the head thereof. 0n the bottom B is a base flange, D, which is provided with a recess or shoulder, a, for receiving and supporting the body A, as shown. Said bottom B, as also the 4head C, is united with the body A by screws or rivets, or by means of solder, as desired by the maker.
These parts, therefore, are detachable from each other, and if the fountain gets out of order the bottom or head can be taken off, if required, for repairing the same. Under ordinary circumstances, however, this purpose can be effected through a man-hole, E, located in the bottom. F is the cover of this manhole, the stem e of which passes through a bridge, G, and is tightened by a nut, d, in the ordinary manner.
Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Thebottom B of a soda-fountain,constructed with a man-hole and a depressed seat for supporting the cover, and a locking device for confining the cover on said flange, and a recess or shoulder for supporting the body of the fountain, substantially as herein shown and described.
