Be it know that I, HERMAN TonJnSEN,
Va citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, city and `State of New York, have invented a certain new anduseful Improvement in Partitions, of which the following is a speciplace of erection.

Referring now in detail to the drawings 9 represents a track secured to a floor along which it iS desired to erect a partition; 10 represents pilaster Stiles, one of which is intended to be positioned against a wall 11. Mounted on the track 9 are the baseboards 12 which baseboards are made of box construction provided with a moulding 13 and a groove 14 therein. The Stiles 10 are also provided with a groove 14a on each side Renewed February 23, 1924.
Stiles. Panels 22 are adapted to be fitted into the grooves 14 of the baseboards and 14a of the stiles; 23 represents a rail of tubular form, having upper and lower grooves 24 and 25 respectively therein. This rail is adapted to be fitted on the top of its respective partition 22, the upper end of the partition litting in the lower end of the rail, and the upper groove is adapted to carry the lower end of its respective upper partition 26. l provide a double moulding strip 27 for the top of my partition in which is embodied an extension strip 28 on which is contained a tongue 29, adapted to tit in the groove 30 of the upper panel 26; 31 is a locking rod fastened by the securing element 32 in one of the Stiles, and 38 is a lever bit used to draw up and lock the partition on the locking rod 31.
In operation a strip 9 is laid on the iioor where it is desired to erect a partition of the form described over which one of the stiles 10 is erected and secured to a wall in any well known manner. A groove 34 is provided in the: lower end of the stile for the purpose of straddling said strip 9. A section of Ithe baseboards 12 is then straddled in place over the Strip 9 and one of its eX- tensions 21 is pressed into the recess 17 and the ends of this baseboard pressed into the grooves 18 and 19 of the stile 10. It will be observed that the side of the stile and the top of the baseboard forming the right angle are provided with grooves which register with each other. A panel 22 is then put in place in the grooves 14 of the haseboard and 14Z1 of the stile. The rail 23 is then straddled over the panel 22 which has just been put in place, the lower groove 25 in this rail accommodating' the upper end of said panel. The right angle now formed by this rail and the upper part of the stile is provided with a ycontinuous groove formed of the upper groove 24 of the rail and the said groove 14a of the stile. An upper panel 2G is then inserted in the groove 24 of the rail and 14L of the stile. The locking rod 31 is then inserted in the: tubular rail 28 and is secured in place in any convenient manner as by in- Serting a screw 35 or other holding element through the stile 10 and into the locking rod 31. A second stile 10 is then Strung onto the locking rod 31 and moved in place against the baseboard 12, the panel 22, the rail 23 and the upper panel 26, the groove 14u of Said second stile tting over the said partillO tion elements just referred to, the extension 2l of theb-aseboard vfittinginto the recess '1T of said second stile.
I have shown in the drawings a partition of six panels in three tiers of two panels each, and have described the erection of one tier. The erection of the other tiers is `aooornplished by the saine method asl just de# scribed for the irsttier. Vhen-the last stile of the partition is in' place the lever bit 33 isdrive'n suliciently into the locking` rod 31. at an angle pointing` toward the direction from which the lpartition has been built to ho'ld 4its position v`in said rod, and ascreiv 35 is then inserted through the screu7 hole 36 and into the body of the las-t erected stile l0. As the screw is driven in, the lever bit gradually assumes an upright position drawing the elements or' the partition just described into tight relation Wit-h each other. Lever bits may of course also be used for the pur-V poses stated at intermediate portions ofthe partition, as Well as at the end. The moulding 27 is then put in place into the top grooves or' the stiles, the tongue 29 being inserted inthe groove 30 of the upper panels.
