Description
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
EBENEZER F. LANE, OF SWANSEY, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAME APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,868, dated May 12, 1874; application iiled f March 11, 1874.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EBENEZER F. LANE, of Swansey, in the county of Cheshire, State of New Hampshire, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Games, of Which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and'exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawing, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the method of arranging the pins and rolling the truck. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the truck; Fig. 3, an edge view.
Like letters refer to like parts in the different gures of the drawing.
My invention relates to that class of amusements known as parlor-games and consists in a grooved wheel provided with a projecting pin or stud, a dart-whip having a loop at the end of the lash, and a set of ten-pins, numbered, respectively, from one to ten.
The extreme simplicity of my invention renders an elaborate description unnecessary.
In Figure 1, A is the Wheel; B, the stock or bow of the Whip 5 C, the lash 5 and D the pins set up in position. The periphery of the wheel is grooved, as shown in Fig. 3, and provided with the pin a, which does not project beyond the sides of the groove to interfere with the rolling of the lWheel. 4
To play the game, the pins are first set up after the manner of tenpi11s, as seen in Fig. l. The loop of the whip is then hooked over the pin a, and the Wheel grasped between the thumb and foreiinger of the left hand, the wheel at the same time being turned so as to bring the pin on the side :nearest the player. A strain is then .taken on the Whip, and the lower edge of the truck rested on the ground, and sighted along the line of the lash at the pins. Now, if the truck is suddenly released, the expansive action of the Whip-sta' will cause the truck to be propelled with great force against the pins in a manner which will be readily obvious to all.
A large loop may be formed in the end of the lash of the whip, and slipped over the Wheel, to propel the truck, instead of using the pin a, Without departing from the spirit of my invention. y, y
The score or tally of the game is kept in ac cordance with the number of pins knocked down, and also with the numbers on the pins.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- The game apparatus herein described, consisting of the set of pins D, the whip B C, and grooved Wheel A, provided with the pin a, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
EBENEZER F. LANE.
