Description

E. RENAUD comm BUTTON Sept. 9 1924.
Filed Nov. 12. 1923 Inventor @9086 ZFe/zaz/d Attorney EUGENE BENAUD, OFF
MONTREAL, aunsno, CANADA.
comes, BUTTON.
Application filed. November 12, 1923. Serial No. 674,321.
To all 20. 2am it may concern.
Be it known that I, EUGENE RENAUD, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar Buttons; and I do .hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art 10 to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention pertains to a novel collar button designed particularly for use in connection with mens wear.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which affords secure attachment between a pair of articles of clothing usually held together by a collar button passed through buttonholes in both garments. In order to accomplish this object the device comprises a back member on which is formed a pair of prongs. The latter are disposed in planes substantially parallel to that of the back, and point in opposite directions. I11 applying this device to a buttonhole, one of the prongs is first passed through the hole, and the entire device is turned until the remaining prong reaches the hole. This remaining prong is then caused to pass through the hole by a slight pressure thereon by the finger of the wearer.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following description and in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved collar button Figure 2 is an elevation thereof;
Figure 3 is an end view;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the back buttonhole in a shirt band, showing thecollar button applied thereto; and,
Figure 5 is a similar view showing the collar in place. Reference will now be had to these views by means of like characters which are-em ployed to designate corresponding parts throughout.
The improved collar button comprises essentially a back 1 which is curved to conform to the neck of the wearer. At one edge of the back is formed a pair of prongs the heads 4 are 2 of substantially right angular configuration, as shown in Figures land 3. I11 other words, each prong comprises a stem 3 perpendicular to the back 1 and a head 4- which is perpendicular to the stem and substanti all y parallel to the back. The heads point in opposite directions, as is evident from any one of the figures.
In Figure 4 is illustrated a shirt generally designated by the numeral 5 and pro vided with the customary collar band 6. In the band is formed a buttonhole 7. When the collar button is to be applied, it is inserted beneath the collar band, and one of the, prongs is passed through the buttonhole. The device is now, turned until the remaining prong reaches the hole and passes therethrough if a slight pressure of the finger is applied. In order to facilitate the entrance of the prongs into the buttonhole, rounded at the sides, as shown by the numeral 8. The collar 9 is applied to the buttonhole in the reverse manner to that described. The buttonhole 10 is passed over one of the prongs, and'the collar is slightly turned until the buttonhole is in position to receive the remaining prong. Obviously, the remaining prong may be passed through the buttonhole by turning in the manner described in connection with Figure 4, if this method of application is found .to be preferable.
While a specific embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that various alterations in the details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as indicated by the appended claim.
Having thus fully described the inven tion, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is A. collar button comprising a back, a pair of stems formed thereon and lying in a plane substantially perpendicular to that of the back, heads extending from said stems and lying in a plane substantially par allel to that of the back. said heads pointing in opposite directions. the side edges of said heads being rounded.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
EUGENE RENAUD.
