Be it known that I, VVILsoN S. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Liberty, in the county of Kittitas and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Antislipping Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will on able others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in anti-slipping devices for shoes and has for its primary object the provision of a device of the above stated character which may be easily and quickly applied to a shoe to prevent a personfrom slipping on ice or in mud and will aid in climbing steep hills or the like.
Another object of this invention is the provision of flexible elements adapted to underlie the sole of a shoe for biting into the ground and are connected by members adapted to prevent undue spreading of said elements and'to which attaching means may be secured and which secures said elements to the shoe.
A further object of this invention isthe provision of an anti-slipping device of the above stated character which will be simple, durable, and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in cer tain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrat ing an anti-slipping device applied to a shoe and constructed in accordance with my invention and said shoe shown in dotted lines,
Figure 2 is a plan view illustrating the device removed from the shoe.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a pair of flexible mom bers constructed from chains or the like and areadapted to extend transversely of the sole 2 of a shoe 3 as clearly illustrated in the drawings and have their ends connected to hooks 4 formed on the ends of curved bars 5 and 6. The flexible elements 1 are further connected by a flexible element 7 constructed from a chain or the like. Flexible element 7 adds to the effectiveness of the device by providing an additional nonskid element. It will be understood that as the element 7 is longer than the distance between the chains when adjusted taut on the shoe that it will sag downwardly when the foot is lifted, and when the foot is placed on the ground it will fold, assuming different positions with each step. By this operation it will be understood that the tendency of the shoe sole to wear smooth by abrasion will be avoided. Element 7 also will operate effectively against side slipping. A strap 8 is connected to the member 6 and is provided with a buckle 9 to receive the end of the strap after being passed about the member 5 and over the shoe 3 so as to firmly secure the device to the shoe. The members 5 and 6 having the hooks 4 provides means which permits the length of the flexible element 1 to be varied, so that the device can be readily adjusted to shoes of different sizes.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be made without'departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
An anti-slipping device for shoes comprising sections of chain adapted to be arranged parallel and extend transversely of a shoe and under the sole thereof, bars having their ends bent toform hooks providing for adjustable connection with the links of the chain sections to maintain the same taut and to adapt them for use on shoes of different width without drawing the chain sections against the uppers of the shoes, means connected to said bars and adapted to extend over the shoe to secure the anti-skid device thereto, and a chain extending transversely of and connected at its ends to said chain sections and of greater length than the distance between the chain sections when they are taut, whereby the chain last mentioned will be slack when in use and operating as an additional antislipping device as well as to permit of relative movement of the first mentioned chain sections.
