As shown in the drawing, the cot comprises a rectangular shaped frame which is composed of two pairs of side bar sections 1 and 2, which are formed of tubular metal. Two pair of end legs 10 and 12 are provided, which are similar in every respect to the legs 3 and 4:, being pivotally connected,
at their middle portion, as shown in Fig. 3.
The end portion of each leg 10 and His also provided with a connectin bar 13 which is connected by spot welding in a manner similar to that already described with reference to the connecting bars 6. One end portion of each bar 13 is similarly formed to each end portion of the bars 6, and these end. portions are pivotally connected to the opposite end portions of the side bars by pivots 14 in the same Way as that already described with relation to the connection between the adjacent ends of the side bars and the connecting bars 6. The opposite end portions of the bars 13 are bent into substantially cylindrical form to provide posts 15, as shown in Figs. 7 8, and 9, and semi tubular metal end bars 16 are provided, the end portions of which are bent to form sockets 17, which are adapted to tit closely on the post portions 15 of the bars 13. Folding braces 18 are connected to each end leg 10 and 12 and to the adjacentside bar sections 1 and 2, so that said legs may be locked in positions at right angles to the frame.
The bed canvas X is connected to the side bar sections in the usualmanner, edge por- End loops'are also formed in the canvas through which the end bars 16 may be in serted, after which said bars may be placed on the posts 15, the latter entering the sockets in the ends of the bars 16, which thus act to stretch the canvas lengthwise and also act as spreaders to prevent the frame from collapsing. The canvas is cut away at its corners over the braces 18, as shown in Fig. 1 and for obvious reasons.
When the parts are in the position for use, shown in Figs. 1 and 2,.the canvas will be tightly stretched lengthwise and crosswise of the frame, which will be rigidly and firmly supported. In folding the cot, the end bars 16 will first be removed, then the braces 18 will be broken out and the side bars 1 and 2 will be swung together. The end legs will then be folded against the adjacent sidebars by swinging relatively on pivots 14., and then the side bars will be swung relatively to the middle legs on pivots 8, so that the frame is compactly folded, as indicatedin Fig. 6.
The form of joint employed between the legs and the frame is durable and strong and gives great rigidity to the frame when in position for use. The arrangement whereby the end bars are attached to the frame by the same means as that which is employed to connect the frame and end legs, is not only simple and convenient, but also provides means for connection of the end barswithout increasing the length of the frame.
I claim:
A folding cot comprising side bars of semi tubular metal, a pair 'of pivotally connected legs at one end of said bars, a connecting bar rigidly connected to the upper end of each leg at right angles thereto and having one end portion fitted within the end portion of one of said side bars and pivotally connected thereto to permit relative swinging thereof between a position'of alignment and a position'at right angles, the opposite end por tion of each connecting'bar projecting beyond the supporting leg to form a post and an end bar having a socket in each end adapted to receive the posts of said connecting bars.
