UNITED STATES- PATENT .oFncE."
HERMAN ,0. nEIDENB cH, or nmmorrr, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR T0 L. A. YOUNG INDUSTRIES, INC., OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
SPRING srnucrunn.
Application filed February 10, 1923. Serial 1510 618348.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN OPRYEIDEN- men, a citizen of the United States, residing atDetroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring Structures, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in spring structures.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide in a spring structure, such as cushion springs, bed springs and the like, an improved means'for tying or connecting the ends of the springs.
Second, to provide an improved means for connecting theends of 'springs'in spring structures of the class described, which constitutes an effective support for the upholstery, mattress or the like, and one in which there are no projecting parts to tear or'wear the same.
Further objects, and objects pertaining to details and economies of the structure will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a fragmentary plan view of a cushion structure embodying the features of my invention.
Fig. II is an enlarged fragmentary plan "iew showing structural details. I
FigIII is a detail View partially in vertical section on'a line corresponding to line is secured to the outer springs by the clips as at 3. The structure illustrated. is a. miniature structure, that is, there are commonly more springs in a spring cushion structure The ends ofthe tie wires are secured to.
the border frame. The ends ofthe tie members are securedxto adjacent springs.
WVith the parts thus formed and arranged they are very easily assembled, and when assembled the springs are effectively supported and a desirable grid-work is pro vided for supporting the upholstery orthe mattress.
I have illustrated and described my improvements in an embodiment which I-have found very satisfactory. tempted to illustrate various embodiments and adaptations which I contemplate as-I I have not at believe the disclosure made will enable those as'may be desired. 7
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: 1 v
1. In aspring structure, the combination of a border frame, a plurality of springs arranged in rows, V-shaped tie members disskilled in this art to embody my invention posed in coacting pairs with their, ends connected to adjacent springs and their bights adjacent, said 'bights having lateral offsets therein, clip plates having holes therein throughwhich said offsets are disposed, and tie wires threaded throughsaid offsets so that said clip plates lie between the tie members and-tie wires, the ends of said tie wires bein seouredto said border frame.
2. In a spring structure, the combination of a plurality of body springs, V-shaped tie members disposed in coacting pairs with their ends connected to adjacent springs and their bights adjacent, said bights having offset loops therein, clip members through which said loops are disposed, and tie wires threaded through said loops so that said clip plates lie between the tie Wires and tie members.
3. In a spring structure, the combination 5 of a pluralityof body springs, V-shaped tie members having their ends connected to,
adjacent springs and having lateral offsets in their bights, clip members disposed on said lateral offsets, and tie Wires threaded through said oflsets so that the clip members 10 lie between the tie Wires and tie members. In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal. i HERMAN O. REIDENBACH. [L.s.]
