HERMAN O. REIDENBAGH, OF DETROIT, I'IIIIICI'IIGAN, .ASSIGNOR T0 L. A. YOUNG INDIl- SERIES, INC., 0]? DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
SPRING STRUCTURE.
Application filed May 5, 1922. Serial No. 558,698.
T 0 all whom it may concera:
Be it known that I, HERMAN O. Remun- BACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring Structures, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in spring structures.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide in a spring structure such as cushion springs, bed springs and the like an improved means for tying or connecting the ends of the springs. Second, to provide an improved means for connecting the ends of the springs of spring structures of the class indicated which constitutes an effective support for the upholstering, mattress or the like.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described the following specification. The invention 1s clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a fragmentary plan view of a cushion structure embodying the features of my invention.
Fig. II is a detail perspective view showing structural details.
In the drawings similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout both views.
Referring to the drawings, the body or supporting springs 1 are arranged in rows upon a suitable base, not illustrated, or both ends of the springs may be connected by the means illustrated.
The outer springs are connected to the border frame 2 by means of the clips 3. The U-shaped tie members 4: are arranged in coacting pairs, their ends being hooked or looped at 5 to engage the end coils of the springs. The bights of the coacting pair of tie members are disposed in opposed relation. Cross wires 6 are arranged between the bights of coacting aligned tie members. The U-shaped clips 7, which are preferably sheet metal stampings, are disposed to face inwardly embracing the bight portions of the coacting pairs of tie members and the cross rods 6. These clips have holes 8 in the arms thereof, the tie rods 9 being arranged through the holes below or at the inner side of the tie members and cross rods, thereby locking the parts in engagement.
By thus forming and arranging the parts they may be very easily assembled and when assembled the springs are efiectively supported and at the same time a very desirable gridwork top is provided to support the upholstery or the mattress.
I have illustrated and described my improvements 1n an embodiment which I have found very satisfactory. I have not attempted to illustrate or describe certain modifications or adaptations which I contemplate, as I believe the disclosure made will enable those skilled in the art to which my invention relates to embody or adapt the same as may be desired;
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure bv Letters Patent is I 1. In a spring structure, the combination of a border frame, a plurality of body springs, U-shaped tie members disposed in coacting pairs with their ends connected to adjacent springs and their bights adjacent, cross wires disposed. between the bights of coacting aligned tie members. ll-shaped clips having holes in the arms thereof embracing the bights of coacting pairs of tie members and the coacting cross wires, and tie wires disposed transversely of the cross wires and through the openings in the said clips below said cross wires and tie members, thereby locking the parts inassembled relation, the ends of said cross and tie wires being secured to the border frame.
2. In a spring structure, the combination of a plurality of body springs, Ill-shaped tie members disposed in coacting pairs with their ends connected to adjacent springs and their bights adjacent, U-shaped clips having holes in the arms thereof embracing the bights of coacting pairs of tie members and tie wires disposed through the openings in the said clips below said tie members, thereby locking the parts in assembled relation.
3. In a spring structure, the combination of a border frame, a plurality of body springs, Ll-shaped tie members disposed in coacting pairs with their ends connected to adjacent springs and their bights adjacent,
cross Wires disposed betwen the bights of coacting aligned tie members, clips embracing the bights of coacting pairs of tie members and the coacting cross Wires, and tie Wires disposed transversely of the cross Wires and through said clips thereby locking the parts in assembled relation, the ends of said cross and tie Wires being secured to the border frame.
4:. In a spring structure, the combination of a plurality of body springs, U-shaped tie members disposed in coacting pairs with their ends connected to adjacent springs and their bights adjacent, clips embracing the bights of coacting pairs of tie members and I tie Wires disposed through said clips thereby locking the parts in assembled relation. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
