WILLIAM R. PERRY, OF GAINES, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WHEELWRlGHT-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,783, dated May 12, 1874 application filed October 11, 1873.
especially for wagon and carriage wheels, but
applicable to all wheels which have fellies and central hubs.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation, showing the device applied, and Fig. 2 is an edge View of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists of an eccentric lever, A, connected with the wheel by means of two straps, B B, a central bolt, 0, and a fulcrumpin, H. D represents the wheel-hub; E, the spokes; and F the fellies. The straps B B are provided with a series of holes, G, so that the device may be applied to wheels of different diameters. These adjusting-holes may be at the other end of the straps, if desired, so that the fulcrum-pin H may be moved, but I profer the arrangement shown in the drawing.
As seen in the drawing, the end of the cocentric lever is bearing 011 the telly as when the power is being applied. Then the lever is not-in use it is in the position seen in dotted lines in Fig. 1.
The manner of applying the device is readily understood from the drawing. The straps turn on the pivot-bolt O, and the lever is carried around from one spoke to anothonand the folly is pressed onto the spokes without bruising or battering it with a hammer, and in the most rapid and permanent manner. For this especial purpose the continued action of the press is far more effective than blows.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the bolt 0, straps B B, and cam-lever A, as and for the purpose dc scribed.
Witnesses: WVILLIAM It. PERRY.
