KIRK- nrunn, a 'citizen' ofthe United States, residing at Palo Alto, in the county ot' Santa Clare and State California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curve- Rail Plates, oi' which the following is a. specification.
vMy inyention'relates, in general. to laste'ning Ineens by which railway-rails nre secured to cross-ties,'and, in particular. it-relates to and consists in a novel assemblage 0r combination of the several members of a fastening comprising as one oi seil` menibers :i supplementary plate, which from its especial use on curves properly be termed s. curve rail-plate, though it is to be understood that it may also he used at other points as for example on tangent tracks, or Wherever conditions may develop e necessity for its presence. y
One object of my invention is to prevent the Widening of. the track-guage., a tendency to which is especially noticeable on curves due to the outward pressure'on the rail.
Another object is to lessen 'the tendency to injury to the fibres of the ties next to the spike holes, by e more even distribution to the tie or the rail-pressure.
Another object is to protectfthe tie from occasional flange cutting due to dernilment.

Widening rearwardly, fit over the sides of the tie., and are fastened thereto by e through bolt 7. This developed curve plate 5 is also further fastened by means independent of therail enga-ging spikes as .for example by the spike 8.
I' claim:
1. ln e railway-rail fastening, in combination ,with a rail, e tie, a tie-plete vunderlying the rail, and spikes engaging the rail and the tie-plete into the tie,
plate and resting ont-he' tie, the rail engeging spikes passing through said supplementary plate; and means for securin said supplementary plate to the tie indepen ently cf the rail-engaging spikes.
2. In e. railway-rail fastening, in combination with e rail, a. time tie-plate underlying the rail, and spikes engaging the rail and' Y passing through the tie-plete into the tie, a supplementeryA pl te underlyhigthe tieplate and resting on the tie, the rail engaglng spikes passing through seid supplementary plate and said supplementery plete having a step et its outer end zig-einst which the outer edge of the tie-plete shuts; and ineens for securing said supplementni'yplne to the tie independently of the reihengeging spikes.
