To all whom it may concern Be it known that T, Dr. `WALTHER Ann- MANN, residing at Essen, Germany, a citizen ot the German Republic, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Electrical Switches, ot'which the ollowing is a specification.
This invention refers to an electrical switch, which is operated by compressed air produced by the mouth of the man operating the switch, or to a so-called mouth operated switch and it has for its object to create an electrical switch ot this kind the organ oit which, exposed to the compressed air current, possesses a particularlyT easy motion and moreover is easily interchangeable and adapted to be disassembled in a very simple way. This object is attained according to the invention by arranging a piston within a cylinder which is detachably connected to the switch casing, so that the piston and cylinder may be removed independently ot the movable part ot the switch proper which part cooperates with the piston.
The invention will be described with reterence to a switch intended for bridging over a bipolar gap in an electrical circuit which is shown in the accompanying` drawings in which- Figure l is a vertical section through the casing of the switch and Figure 2 is a section on the line .Q-Q ot Figure 1 looking from above.
The interior et the substantiallyT cylindrical casing A of the switch is closed in by a cover B (see Figure 2) placed on the front of the casing and adapted to be attached thereto by means of screws, a packing ring b1 being placed between it and the casing. On its underside the casing A has a cylindrical flange a1 (see Figure l) to which is attached by means ot screws a downwardly extending socket C and a packing ring is inserted between the two,
In the socket C is guided an esaily movable hollow cylindrical piston D, the edge of the piston face ot which is supported on an annular shoulder on a nozzle c1 screwed watertight to the socket C and which nozzle serves for the attachment ot the air pipe (not shown). The pist-on D has a short upwardly extending piston rod d1, upon the upper end face of which bears a bolt E forming a force-closing element.

of, c3 is a bracket-shaped holder whose vertical limb c3 screwed to the rear wall ot the casing A and whose horizontal limb c2 is vertically bored to receive the longitudinally i'z'iovable bolt E which is acted on by a. spring F, which spring F bears with one end against the limb 0,2 and with its other end against a flanged disc c1 and tends to thrust the/bolt E downwards.
The upper end ot the bolt E which projects from the limb r2 is provided with a collar c2, which limits the downwardly directed movement ot. the bolt E and serves as a support tor a transverse carrier c3 ot non-conducting material pushed over the upper end ot the bolt E. This transverse carrier c3 is prevented from being` litted off bv a screw in the well-known manner shown in the drawing.
Upon the ends ot the transverse carrier c3 are mounted two stirrups e4 composed ot conducting material and rigidly connected thereto by screws c (see Figure 2) and the ends ot which are bent up elastically in the manner shown in Figure` l and carry the' contacts proper c5 of the movable part of the switch.
The iixed part of the switch is formed by tour screw clamping belts G intended tor the attachment ot the conductors H and mounted on a terminal plate a5 of non-conducting material screwed to two lugs a* on the limb a3. The heads ,(71 of the bolts G which proiect from the underside ot the terminal plate c5 torm a bipolar gap in the circuit which can be bridged over b v the two elastic sirrups c4. The conductors H are passed through a socket o cast ou the wall ot the casing.
When a. current ot air impinges on the end tace ot the piston D, it rises and pushes with its piston rod (Z1 the bolt E ot' the movable part ot the switch the spring F being compressed. At the same time the elastic stirrups c4 bear with their contacts c against the heads f/ ot the terminal screw bolts G and thus bridge over the gap in the circuit. YVheu the current ot' air ceases the bolt E. the contacts c5 rigidly connected thereto and the piston D return under the action ot theiy` own weight and that ot the expanding spring F to the position ot rest shown in the drawing. whereby the circuit is again broken.
A The fact that the member which is exposed to the action of the current or" air and operates the movable part of the switch, is mounted in a socket which is connected in an easily detachable manner to the casing of the switch, while on the other hand the movable part of the switch is mounted in the casing itself ot the switch`r affords a particularly advantageously constituted genera-l arrangement of the switch,y as firstly the member which is exposed to the directly applied action of the current of air (viz7 the piston D) is conveniently accessible and easily interchangeable. as it can be removed from the casing A ot' the switch together with the socket C, and secondly the movable part of the switch (E to 6) which forms the one sensitive part ot the switch is so mounted in the casing A of the switch that even after the removal of the socket C it does not project 'from the casing A and is therefore protectedy from injury.
Claims:
1. A mouth operated electric switch comprising a casing, fixed and movable switch contacting means within said casing, said movable contacting means being'carried on plungerreciprocably mounted in said casing, al spring tending to hold said movable contact means in spaced relation to said fixed contacting means, a cylinder attached to said casing in substantially axial alinement with said plungerfa piston in said cylinder' and projecting in said casing through an aperture provided in the latter whereby said piston abuts said plunger, and afmouth-piece on said cylinder whereby air being blown into said mouth-piece said movable contacting means is urged against said 'fixed contacting mean; said mouth-piece, cylinder and piston being detachable as a unit AIfrom said casing, and Said plunger being so disposed as to lie entirely within said casing when said detachable unit is removed.
2. A, mouth operated electric switch comprising a casing` fixed contact points and a bridge for cooperation therewith in said casing, said bridge being carried on a plunger reciprocably mounted in said casing, a spring acting on said plunger tor normally holding said bridge away i'roin said lixcd contact points, a cylinder attached to said casing in substantially axial alincmcnt with said plunger7 a piston in said cylinder and projecting through said casing through an aperture provided in the latter whereby said piston abuts said plunger1y and a mouth-piece on said cylinder whereby air being blown into said mouth-piece said'bridge is urged against said. ixed contact points; said mouth-piece, cylinder and piston being detachable as a unit trom said casing, and said plunger being so disposed as to vlie entirely within said casing when said detachable unit is removed.
