mvzu'ron BY w 4 ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Aug. 19, 1924.
UNITED STATES JAMES CARAFILIDIS, OF SABRATON, WEST VIRGINIA.
SMOKERS PIPE.
Application filed October 30, 1920.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs CARAFILIDIs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sabraton, State of IV est Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Smokers Pipes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to smoking devices, and more particularly to a device which may be used either as a pipe or as a cigar or cigarette holder.
One of the main objects of the invention is to provide a device of the character stated of simple construction and operation which may be produced at small cost. A further object is to provide a device in which the smoke may be drawn through water or other suitable liquid so as to be filtered and cooled thereby. Another object is to provide a device which may be used either as a pipe or as a cigar or cigarette holder. Further objects will appear from the detailed description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side view of a device constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the device.
Figures 3, L and 5 are central vertical sections through different types of bowls.
Figure 6 is a detail of a perforated disc to be used in one of the bowls.
Th device includes a body 1 of substantially rectangular shape provided at one end with a mouth piece or bit 2. The body is provided at its other end with an upwardly directed neck 3 in the upper end of which is formed a bore 4: adapted to receive a neck 5 formed on the lower end of a bowl 6. The bowl illustrated in Figure 1 is intended to hold tobacco in the ordinary manner of a smokers pipe, and this bowl may be provided with a perforated disc 8 such as illustrated in Figures 3 and 6. A smoke passage 9 extends from the inner end of Serial No. 420,706.
bore 4 and communicates with the forward end of a chamber or reservoi 10 of substantially elliptical shape, and a smoke passage 11 of substantially elongated U-shape is provided in the upper portion of body 1 and establishes communication between bit 2 and the rearward end of reservoir 10. In practice a suitable quantity of water or other suitable liquid may be poured into reservoir 10 through passage 9, and this water acts to filter and cool smoke which is drawn through it. As will be understood, it is not necessary to place water or other liquid in the reservoir or chamber 10. In
this case, this chamber would act as an ex- 1 In a device of the character described. a
body of substantially elongated rectangular shape provided at one end with a neck and at the other end with a bit, the body being hollowed out to provide a relatively large elongated chamber. said neck being adapted for reception of a bowl and communicating with the chamber at the forward end thereof, said body being further provided with an outlet passage of elongated U-shape above the chamber, said passage communieating at one end with the chamber at the rear thereof and at its other end with the bit.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JAMES OARAFILIDIS.
