To all whom it may con-0cm Be it known that Gnoncn O- H. Guess, citizen of the United States, residing at Dewey in the county of l vashington and State of Oklahoma, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sliding Form Jacks, of which the following is a specification. N
This invention relates to sliding form jacks especially adapted to be used in ccment concrete erections and it consists'in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a jack structure adapted to be applied to the form in which the concrete cement is molded, as for instance, in a wall.
With this object in view, the structure includes a yoke adapted to be applied to the form in which the wall is molded. A rod passes centrally through the said yoke and is adapted to hear at one end upon the upper edge of the wall which is in the course of construction. The rod is slidably mounted in the yoke and a holding device is mounted upon the upper portion of the rod and has contact with the under surface of the upper side of the yoke and is provided with jaw members adapted to engage the rod, a lever mechanism being provided for moving the said jaw members to release the rod. A casing surrounds the intermediate portion of the rod and is provided with jaw members adapted to engage the red. A lever device is provided for moving the last mentioned jaw members to release the rod. A lever is fulcrumed upon the said casing and is operatively connected by means of rods with foot members which are attached to the lower portion of the yoke.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the jack showing the yoke in section.

Figure 5 is a sectional view of the holding device which is applied to the upper portion of the yoke.
Figure 6 is an edge view of the same.
The sliding'form' jack comprises a yoke 1 which is adapted to be applied to the form in which the wall is molded and which is not shown, and in any usual or suitable manner.
A red 2 passes through the upper and lower portions of the yoke 1 and is adapted to hear at its lower end upon the upper edge of the wall, during the course of its con-' struction. The rod 2 is slidably mounted in the yoke 1. A casing 3 is, applied to the under surfaceof the upper side of the yoke l and it includes side plates 4. The plates 4'. are provided with curved slots 5 along which a cross pin 6 is adapted to move. A jaw '7 is mounted upon the pin 6 and islocated within the casing between theside plates 4. The jaw 7 is provided with downwardly disposed teeth 8. A jaw 9 is fixed within the casing 3, being provided at .its inner edge with downwardly disposed teeth 10. The rod 2 is disposed between the jaws 7 and 9. A lever 11 is fulcrumedupon a pin 12 which passes transversely through the casing 4 andthe'jaw 9 and the same lever is connectedwiththe end portions of the pin 6 as best shown in Figure 6 of the drawing. A weight 13, which may be used as a handle, is carried at the outer end of the lever 11 and is disposed transversely across the rod 2. The weight 13 is best shown in Figure 10 of the drawing and consists of an outer cylinder, preferably bevelled, and which is filled with an inner filling 14 preferably of lead. i
Under normal conditions, the weight 13 holds the outer end of the lever 11 depressed whereby the inner end of the lever is elevated and the teeth 8 of the jaw 7 are held in engagement with the side of the rod 2, thus the yoke 1 cannot move in a downward direction with relation to the rod 2. When it the teeth 8 of the jaw 7 are carried away from the side of the rod 2 and the said rod is releasedand the yoke 1 may move in a downward direction along the rod.
A casing is mounted upon the intermediate portion of the rod 2 and is located between the upper and lower ends of the yoke 1. A movable aw 16 is mounted in the casing 15upon the cross pins 17 which extend through arcuate slots 18 provided in the sides of the said casing. The 16 is provided with downwardly inclined teeth 19 adapted to engage the side of the rod 2. A lever 20 is fulcrumed upon the casing 15 and carries at its outer end a weight 21 similar to the weight 13 hereinbefore described.
Links 22 are pivoted at one end to the pin 17 and at their other end portions upon pins 28 carried by the casing 15 and at the opposite side of the rod 2. The lever 20 is an extension of the lower links 22 as best indicated in Figure l of the drawing. The
pins 23 pass through a jaw 2 1 which is fixed within the casing 15. The jaw 2 1 is provided at its inner edge with downwardly disposed teeth 25 which engage against the side of the rod 2 at the opposite surface thereof from thatsurface at which the teeth 19 engage. The jaw 24c isprovided at its inner edge and at a point between its ends with an inwardly disposed slot 26. A pin 27 passes transversely through the sides of the casing 15 and is disposed transversely within the slot 26. A yoke 28 is fulcrumed upon the pin 27 and a handle lever 29 is fixed to the intermediate portion of said yoke. The yoke 28 is provided with angularly disposed extremities 30 to the free ends of which are pivotally attached the upper end of rods 31. The lower ends of the rods 31 are pivotally connected with foot members 32 which are attached directly to the lower side of the yokel.
Therefore it will be seen that when the lever 20 is swung in an upward direction,
the teeth 19 of the jaw 16 are moved out of engagement with the side of the rod 2 and the casin 15 may move along the said rods 2. Therefore when the teeth 19 are out of engagement with the side of the rod 2, the casing 15 may ascend along the rod 2 by operation of lever 29.
When it is desired to move the yoke 1 in an upward direction along the rod 2, the outer ends of the levers 23 are depressed, whereby the teeth 19 of the jaw 16 are brought in contact with the side of the rod 2. Then by swinging the outer end of the lever 29 in a downward direction, the rods 31 are moved longitudinally in an upward direction, and in that they are connected with the foot pieces 32, which in turn are connected with the yoke 1, the yoke 1 is lifted and the form is raised with relation to the wall and is positioned so that an additional course may be applied to the wall in usual manner.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is:
A sliding form jack comprising a yoke, a rod slidably mounted therein, a casing applied to the yoke and having movable and fixed jaws which receive the rod between. them, a lever mechanism for moving the movable jaws in said casing, a second casing mounted upon the intermediate portion of the rod and located within the yoke, movable and fixed jaws located in the second mentioned caslng, a lever mechanism for moving the movable jaw in the second men tioned casing, a second lever fulcrumed upon the second mentioned casing, rods pivot-ally connected with the working end of the last mentioned lever, foot pieces pivotally connected with the rods, and means connecting the said foot pieces with the lower portion of the said yoke.
