Be it known that l, Josnrn \V. STAFFORD, a ci 'zen of the United States, residing at ritlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful improvements in Mop Vi ringers, of which the following is a specification.
' he present invention relates to mop wringers of the type by which the mop is wrung free of a surplus moisture without manual opel'ation of the squeezing mechanism.
Objects of the invention are to produce a wringer preferably having corrugations in the body thereof and which may be adjusted to various sized mops and which may be adapted either to a flat surface or the curved surface of a pail or the like.
To accomplish these objects the wringer is made preferably of two parts, one flat and the other curved, which have their lower ends hinged together in spaced relation so as to permit the ready flow of the water from the mop.
In the drawings t Figure 1 shows an embodiment of the mop wringer attached to a-pail, the pail being broken away to show the mop wringer, which is in section, and also to show the specific support of the mop wringer.
Figure 2 is a vertical section through the pail on line 22 showing the mop wringer supported therein.
Figure 3 is a plan view of a portion of a pail having the wringer mounted thereon, showing the relation of the wringer sup porting means to the wringer and to the pail.
Figure l is a perspective view of the mop wringer detached from the pail showing the construction of the two cooperating members and the manner in which one member may be adjusted relative to the other.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 10 designates a pail which may be of the ordinary construction or, as shown in Figure 3, may have an oblong shape for a purpose which will presently appear.
The wringer is preferably comprised of two members 11 and 12 hinged together by pins or rivets 13; the member 11 being preferably curved adapting it to be fitted against a curved inner surface of an ordinary pail and the member 12 being preferably flat in its general contour, adapting it to be fitted against a fiat surface, as to the wardly sloping portions located at. such an angle that they will wedge against the inclmed inner surface of a pail and a pair of the outer surfaces of the wringer respectively. These flanges may be secured to either the wringer or the pail or to both, or may be frictionally held in place between the two members. Each of these flanges has one of its depending margins shaped to conform with one of the sides of the wringer and its other depending margin rounded so as to generally conform to the rounded interior of a pail which has its inner wall sloping toward its bottom. When said flanges 22 are inserted between the sides of the wringer and the interior of a pail, each has one of its depending margins frictionally engaging one side of the wringer and its other depending margin frictionally engaging q the interior of the pail so as to support the wringer in the pail with either the rounded side of the member 11 or the flat side of the member 12 against the inner wall of the pail, thus adapting the wringer for use with a pail having a fiat side or for use with a pail having flat sides and a rounded end such as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
The walls of the members 11 and 12 are preferably provided with longitudinally eX- tending corrugations which, when mop is inserted therebetween, as shown in Figure 1, will tend to grip the fibres of the mop and, upon a twisting movement of the mop handle, will wring the surplus water from the mop, said Water being guided downwardly into the pail by the corrugations.
In order to adapt the mop wringer to various size mops, the device is provided with adjusting means whereby the angular position of one member may be varied relatively to the other. This is effected by "providing both of the members 11 and 12 with slide flanges 15 and 16, the flanges on one of the members overlapping those on the other member, the flanges of the curved member 11 having apertures 17 adjacent their upper ends and the flanges on the mem ber 12 having at or adjacent their upper ends, extensions or projections 18 rovided with arcuate slots 19. The mem ers are held in adjusted position by means of bolts 20 projecting through the apertures and slots and Wing nuts 21 threaded onto the ends of the bolts.
In operation the device is secured "to a pail or the like and the members 11 and 12 are adjusted to each other so as to adapt the device to the 'siZe of the particular mop to be used. When the mop has been dipped into the water for cleansing the 'same, it may be then inserted into the wringer and twisted, whereby the excess water will be wrung therefrom, inthis manner avoiding manual wringing of the map other than by twisting the handle thereof. It will 'be understood that the hereinbefore described device constitutes merely one embodiment of -my invention for purpose of illustration only and 'With it may assume any form within the scope of the appended'claim's.
What is claimed as new is 1. A. device of the character described, comprising a pair of corrugated 'i'n'em'bers one of which is curved and the other substantially flat in general contour, said members "being hinged together at their lower ends, and means at 'their'upper ends for securing the members in 'angularly adjusted relation to each other. 7 a
2. A device of the character described, comprising a pairof members havinglongitudinal corrugated surfaces, said members being hinged together at their lower ends, one of sald members having at its upper end projections provided with arcuate slots,

3. In combination, a mop wringer and means for securing said wringer in a vessel having a downwardly and inwardly sloping Wall, said means comprising a pair of plates for insertion respectively between the inner Wall of the vessel and opposite sides ot the wringer, each of said plates having one of its edgesturned downwardly to conform with and frictionally engage the side of the Wringer with whichit is associated and its opposite edge turned downwardly to hear against the inner wall of the vessel.
