Description

R. BURGESS Aug. l2 1924n BOBBIN Filed March 1l, 1922 (S172 ven 7": M /MOOM cfQz/towy desired 'adhesive engagement betvveen bobbin and spindle preferably is cork,.which is the mostV satisfactory substance that I have found thus far'for this purpose, and I preferV tha-titheV cork shall Vbe in a compressed state, for compressed cork has greater Wear.-
ers due to its greater density.
ing qualities and also greater gripping povv- VIn some cases, other suitable yielding orV elastic'frictional material may be employed in the place of cork.
The Vcontainer or shellV S'iis formed, as
shown best in Figs. l ande, With inturned Aflanges 3a, 3b,at the top Vand bottom, respectively, thereof to Aconfine the frictional or adhesive lmaterial against displacement vertically. The lower flange, 3b, also serves toprotect theA said material from being injured or torn by the tip of the spindle. The said loweriiange also-is formed VVconcave, to
Y center the spindle.` tip with the boreof the other material used instead thereof, is placed Within the container-shell before the top `flange, `3a,has been bent down. In volume thec'ork Vor other-material VVWill exceed the capacity of the container-shell. Y It is compressed into the latter and thevtopflange 3a Vis pressed down intofplace.V
t will be' clear from the foregoing description that in some cases the principles of Vmy invention may be applied With considerable variationY in the form, materials and methodof combining, and to other forms of 'bobbins, Without departing from ther scope of myinvention. jIn some cases,'also, an an- Vn'ulus of compressed' cork, or the described spindle-blade engaging unit comprising such an annulus and a container-shell, as 3, may
be introduced into Vthe bore of a bobbin made i of Wood. Y
V,I claim as my inventionf- L l. A bobbin comprising a body of plastic material, af vcylindrical container-shell em- `fined Within said container.
3. A bobbin comprising a body formed of plastic material, a cylindrical container lixed Within said body, and an annulus of elastic frictionally adhesive material within said container.
4. A bobbin formed of bakelite having embedded therein a container, and a spindleblade-engaging annulus of compressed cork confined Within said container.
-5. A bobbin formed of plastic material and having a bearing comprising a constriction or shoulder in the bore of said bobbin adapted to fit a spindle-blade, a cylindrical container adjacent said constriction or shoulder, and an annulus within said container of material adapted to engage frictionally with the blade of a spindle on which the bobbin is mounted.
6. The' combination with a spinning bobbin or the like, of a spindle-blade engaging unit within said bobbin comprising an annulus of frictional or adhesive material, and a container-shell enclosing said annulus.
7. A spinning bobbin or the like having concentrically disposed therein a spindleblade engaging annulus composed of compressed cork. I
8. A spinning bobbin 0r the like having combined with the` body thereof an internally-located spindle-blade engaging unit comprising a container-shell and an annulus l ofV compressed cork confined Within said container-shell. y
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
