Be it known that Gusravn H. JANTZ, a citizen of the ilnited States, residing at lfvlyoming, in the county of Hamilton and State of hio, have invented certain new and useful 1improvements in VJringer Rolls for Clothes lNringers, of which the following is a specification.
`Wringer rolls heretofore constructed comprise a central shaft to which has been affixed, in suitable manner, a cylindrical body of 'resilient material, such as rubber, the ruboer having` in practice been laid around the shaft in layers, and then vulcanized, VVVringer rolls are usually provided with power transmitting means, for instance cog-wheels, at the respective ends thereof,
and with driving means, for instance a handjcranli, when the wringer is intended for manual operation, or with a suitable cog-gear or cog'gearswhen the wringer isr intended for power actuation, for instance in connection with a powerl washing machine.
The coating or covering of the wringer roll deteriorates in course of time, and when it has been desired to provide a new wringing surface, it has been found necessary for the user to purchase an entirely new roll, including the power imparting and the power transmitting means thereon, forrthe reason that, as heretofore constructed, the body of the resilient material or rubber has been permanently vulcanized to the shaft. Shafts of various lengths and with various propelling'y means thereon have heretofore been made by the different manufacturers of wringers, so that ithas been necessary heretofore for the user, if he desired to renewl his wringer roll, to obtain an entirely new roll and its attendant. driving and transmitting means, from the manufacturer' ot' the particular machine which he has been using. y
It is the object of my invention to so construct the wringer roll that the resilient surface is provided with a foundation, so
that the same may be renewed without the necessity of renewing the working parts connected therewith; further, to provide a' driving shaft comprising a plurality of sections and having the power transmitting means thereon, and a wringer roll, provided with a resilient wringing surface, having releasable connection with said sections;

prising a shell having a resilient body thereon, and a driving shaft having releasable connection with said shellgand, further to provide a pluri-part shell, the parts of which are arranged to be connected and to receive the resilient body of the wringerroll thereover, and a shaft releasably received in the shell, so that the shells with the resilient'wringer-bodies thereon may be selectively placed upon and exchanged upon the shaft.
The invention consists in means for effect# ing these purposes, and in the novel construction, arrangements and combinations of the parts.

The wringer frame is exemplified at 11, and may be of any suitable, usual or desired construction. A wringer roll 12 is arranged to -cooperate with a wringer'roll 13. The
' shaft of the wringer roll 12 is arranged to rotate in bearings 14 in the frame, and the shaft 15 of the wringer roll 13 is arranged to have bearings 16 coact therewith. I have in Fig. 2 exemplifiedrthe shaft of the driving wringer roll provided with a crank-handle i6 of usual construction, secured to the shaft of the driving Wringer-roll by usual means, as by a screw-threaded connection i7 between the hub of the crankhandle and said shaft, and a nut i8 received over the threaded reduced end i9 of said thereon. or the securing means thereon for the 'crank-handle' when a crank-handle is employed.
In'my improved construction I mount the resilientclothes contacting portion of the wringer roll on a releasable foundation so that this releasable foundation with its resilient covering may be replaced by a freshV or new releasable foundation with its resil ientI covering Without the necessity of I'eplacement of the shaft, the cog-gears or the driving means.
Exemplifying such construction I provide a shell. This shell is preferablypl-uri-part, comprising the sections 5l 52. Each end of each shell-section has a section 53 of a bearing therein. The pins 72,"which Vhave been previously removed are again passed through the collars 7l, the shell-sections, and the respective shaft-sections, for aiding in rotatively securing the shaft-sections and the releasable wringer roll together, and to prevent endwise movement between the shaft-sections and the releasable wringer roll. The coacting portions between the inner ends of the shaft-sections and the shell are such as to cause the axes of the shaftsect-ions and of the shell to be coincident.
When it is desired to renew the releasable wringer roll in my improved device, the pins 72 are removed, and the shaft-sections are withdrawn endwise out of the shell, a new releasable wringer-roll being substituted for the worn-out releasable wringerroll, the shaft-sections and the new releasable wringer-roll, being re-assembled in the manner hereinbefore described. In order to insure ready assembling of the parts, the inner end of the shaft-sections and the inner bearing of the shell are preferably provided with tapering ends, exemplified as the tapering ends 76 of the shaftsections and the outwardly tapering ends 77 of the walls of the sockets, either or both of which may be employed. In order to facilitate the release between the shaftsections and the shell I prefer that the reduced portions of the shaft-sections, or one of the same, shall be sutiiciently long to extend substantially through the length of the socket in Vthe interior of the shell, tor the purpose, if desired, that one of the shaftsections may be employed to drive the other f shown and described, having shown, de-

In a wringer roll for a clothes wringer, the combination of a shell comprising a plurality of shell-sections extending lengthwise of the shell, said shell-sections provided with shoulders limiting lateral displacement, said shell-sections provided with endwise positioning means, collars received about the ends of said shell-sections, and a resilient cover about said shell-sections between said collars.

In a wringer roll for a clothes wringer, the combination of a shell comprising a plurality of shell-sections forming substantial sectors of a cylinder extending lengthwise of the shell, shaft-sections, a resilient covering for said shell, the ends of said shell provided with bearings for said respective shaft-sections, the interiors of said respective shell-sections and the inner ends of said shaft-sections provided with coacting releasable driving connections within said resilient covering, and a cog-gear on each of said shaft-sections.
