Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 10 indicates the vertical frame posts inwhich a door 11 is pivotally mounted on hinges 12. This door is of the usual construction capableof a 90 degree swing and the posts 10 are provided with moulding strips 18 upon which the door shoulders when in closed position. The purpose for this: band will-he more. fully hereinafter described. In order to retain the door within the frame in closed position, a flange 35 projects from the side of the lower bar 19 and is adapted to be engageable with the side surface of the door 11.
In use, the device is inserted in either of the spaces 14 or 16, and at any position, it being obvious that the upper horizontal bar 18 enters the space first, and in such position that the flange 35 lies in contact with the surface of the door 11, as illustrated in Figures 4 and 7. When the device is invserted in either of said spaces, the locking jaws 29 and 80 are aligned with the surface of the side bars 17 and in theposition as.in-

it will be seen that the person on the outside of the door pushing the same will be prevented from opening said door, as the extending jaws 30 will be engaged in the door frame while the flange 35 will engage reventing the latter from being opened. 11 order to release the device from the locked position, the wing nut is rotated in an opposite direction and causes the shaft to lift the carriage 24:, thereby drawing the jaws out ofthedoor j amb, the front band 33 folding the jaws into the position shown in Figure 2 during this drawing operation, the wing nut being at all times held stationary position by the brackets 28.
I claim V 1. A device of the class, described comprising a rectangular frame, the sides of said frame having grooves therein, a car riage extending across said frame and engaged in said grooves, a threaded shaft rigid with said carriage, a wing nut engaging said shaft, said wing nut when rotated being adapted to lift or lower the carriage, the frame being insertable between a door and door frame, and means on said carriage for engaging said door frame.

A device of the class described comprising a rectangular frame, the'sides of said frame" having grooves facing each other, a carriage slidable between the sides of said frame, a threaded shaft rigid with the carriage, a thumb nut engaging said shaft, jaws pivotally mounted on said carriage, said frame, being'ins-ertable between the door and door frame, curved teeth on the lower end of said jaws, a curved surface on' the rectangular frame supporting the teeth of said jaws, said wing nut when rotated being adapted to lower the carriage in the slides and cause the teeth to rotate downwardly on the curved surface of the frame, a flange extending fromthe lower portion ofthe rectangular frame and adapted to engage the side of the door, a band enveloping the frame forming a support for the carriage when the jaws are in extended 7 position, the front portionof the band providing means for folding the jaws into the frame when said jaws are extracted from the door frame. 1 V V In testimony whereof I' aflix my si nature. 7 GEORGE nfnrz.
