This invention relates to strip moistening devices, and more particularly to moistening devices designed for moistening the glued surface of paper strips employed in wrapping packages.`
The primary object of the invention is to provide a moistening device wherein the moisture .will be applied evenly throughout the width of the strip to insure the strip to which the strip provision 4ofnieansfor supplying liquid to the liquid distributing rolls at predetermined intervals, at the will of the operator.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 5 designates the base or main reservoir of the device which is designed to contain theV moistening liquid, which reservoir has communication with the the supply tank 6 being provided with a threaded extension to be positioned in the threaded recessed portion 8 of the reservoirv.
This reservoir 5 is provided with a reduced portion 9 for the reception of one end of the tubular member 10, which has its upper extremity disposed within the sleeve 11 which houses the spring 12 that has its upper extremity contacting with the movable valve block 13, carrying the nozzle 14.
Supported within the tubular member 10 is a wick member 15 formed of loosely woven material which is designed to conduct moisture from the reservoir 5 and deliver the same to the nozzle 14, and at the same time retard the flow of liquid through the member 1() when the device is inverted whereupon the moistener is transferred to the roll 16 which is supported directly above the nozzle 14 and which operates over the inclined surface 17 thereof. l
Supported at the upper extremity of the tubular member 10 is a delivering nozzle designed to deliver the strip, and in this nozzle are rotatably supported the rolls 18 and 19, the roll 19 being the delivering roll and'which contacts directly with the glued surface of the paper strip under operation.
As shown, the delivering nozzle indicated by the reference character 2O is provided with a pair of openingsformed in one of the walls thereof, the upper opening adapted to accommodate the strip indicated by 21 so thatthe strip may pass into the deliver ing nozzle, and over the delivering roll 19, the roll 18, which is disposed adjacent to the roll 19 being provided with a vmeans to permit 'the roll to be rotated b v the operator,V whereby the strip 21 is fed through the delivering-nozzle and over the delivering rolls 22.
Having connection with the reservoir 5 is an upwardly extending supporting arm 23 which has its upper end extending outwardly as at 211, to provide a support for the arm 25, which in turn supports the knife 26 that operates through the slot 27 formed Vin the delivering nozzle 20. The arm 25,
has pivotal connection with the arm 23 to permit the knife to move laterally to sever the strip 21 after the same has passed the moistening roll 19.
Disposed under the arm 25, is an arm 28 which is pivotally connected to the arm 23 as at 29, the inner extremity of the arms supporting the roller 16 in a manner so that the roller may be moved across the upper end of the nozzle 14, to o-pen and close the nozzle, and control the flow of liquid through the nozzle. This arm 23 extends to a point overlying the: main tank 6, and since the arm 23 is formed of resilient material, it is obvious that upon movement of the arm 28, the roller/16 may be moved to accomplish its purpose.

Y the ope-ration of the device, the device is inverted by the operator and the arm 28 is moved to cause the spring 12 to compress the member 15, and cause the liquid to flow through the nozzle 14, whereupon moisture is transferred to the moisture delivering roll 19, and upon movement of the roll 18, the strip 21 is fed through the device, whereupon the same picks up the moisture from 'the roll 19 and passes outwardly over the rolls 22.

In a device of the character described, a main reservoir, a tank for supplying moistening liquid to the reservoir, a tubular member supported 4by the main reservoir and communicating therewith, a movable delivering nozzle positioned above the tubular member, said nozzle having an inclined deliveringgend, a movable roll adapted to operate over the inclined end of a nozzle to receive moistening liquid therefrom, and a roll adapted to receive moistening liquid from the first mentioned roll.
2. In a device of the character described, a main reservoir, a tank for supplying moistening liquid 4to the main reservoir, a tubular member supported bythe main reservoir and communicating therewith, a
wick in the tubular member, a moistening roll disposed above the wick and adapted to receive moistening liquid from the tubular member when the device is inverted, and
manually controlled means for compressing the wick to cause liquid to pass therefrom.
3. In a device of the character described, a main reservoir, a tank for supplying moistening liquid to the main reservoir, a tubular member in communication with the main reservoir, a wick inthe tubular member, a spring supported nozzle disposed above the Wick, said spring adapted to engage the wick, and means for moving the spring to compress the wick, and cause liquid to drop therefrom. when the device is inverted. l
4. In a device of the character described, a main reservoir, a tank for delivering moistening liquid to the maink reservoir, a
tubular member commimicating with the reservoir, a wick disposed in the tubular mem'ber, a moistening roll `disposed above the tulbular member, 'and means for compressing the wick to cause liquid to flow from the tubular member when the device is inverted, and means for delivering a strip to the moistening roll. f Y Y 5.
