To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST Loncn VVIL- SON, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and connected with Curtain Runners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to curtain runners, of the type described in specification No. 1,339,247 and other runners having rollers, adapted to run on a fiat strip race.
Then a curtain is suspended on a large number of runners, although it can be drawn freely in one direction the drawing of the curtain in the opposite direction is apt to meet with a resistance due to the contact of the rollers of adjacent runners.
The object of thein'vention is to avoid this interference between the rollers of adjacent runners and to protect the rollers from dust and damp atmosphere, with these objects in View the invention consists in the provision of guards on the runners, which, when a number of runners are drawn close together will hold the rollers sufliciently apart to permit of free rotation.

In the form of invention illustrated by Figures 1 and 2 a guard 1 of rectangular prismatic form is pressed up from sheet steel or other suitable material. It has triangular downward extensions 2 having indentations or pockets 3 and so curved as shown in Figure 1 that when the guard is forced onto the runner it is clipped onto the wire 4 of the runner and encases the roller 5 without touching it and without interfering with it or with the pivotal action of'the runner. The form of guard described is closed at the ends 7, 7, as well at the sides and top so that it forms a dust cap for the roller 5.
In the form shown in Figures 3 and 4 the guard is made dome shaped and pressed up from a single piece of metal.
The forms of guard above described are adapted to be removably secured to the runner, but they may be permanently secured to it by soldering or otherwise.
In the form shown in Figures 5 and 6 each guard is made in one piece with the frame of a runner made of fiat strip material, Figure 5 showing a rectangular prismatic guard and Figure 6 a dome shaped guard.
The rollers for these forms of runner may be made without flanges but slightly broader for instance as shown in the form illustrated in Figures 7 and 8.
The invention is not limited to runners having frames of the peculiar curvature illustrated as the guard may be variously formed to suit the shape of the frame.
I claim:
1. A guard for the roller of a curtain runner having a roller adapted to run on a flat strip race and having a frame depending from said roller, said guard havin a hollow body adapted to encase said roller without touching it, and having clipping members adapted to clip onto the frame of said runner to provide the sole support for the guard.
2. A. guard for the roller of a curtain runner having a roller adapted to run on a flat strip race and having a wire frame depending from said roller, said guard having a hollow body adapted to encase said roller without touching it and having clipping members shaped to conform tothe adjacent portions of said frame when forced onto said frame, the cooperation of the clipping members and frame serving as the sole support for the guard in its relation to the roller.
