Be it known that I, SAMUEL JAMES SYMMoNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at 240 Stockton Street, San Francisco,
in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Dental Swaging Device, of which the following is a speciication.
The object of my invention is to provide a swaging device whereby dental crowns can be formed with less labor land greater accuracy than has heretofore been possible.
Other objects will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which* c Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a dental crown swaging device constructed in accordance with my invention; and

Referring now to the accompanying drawings in which like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all of the iigures.
A matrix block 1 which I employ consists of metal and is substantially cylindrical in form. The block has formed within it a frusto-conical shaped die chamber 2 for the reception of a mass of mouldine 3, or other suitable matrix material. yThe chamber formed in the matrix block for the reception of this matrix material having inwardly beveled walls 4t terminating at its inner end in a concave face 5. The die chamber 2 is also provided with an opening or mouth 6 in the side wall of the matrix block l, of sufficient size to permit the insertion and removal of the die, to be described, and is f also provided with an upwardly extending longitudinal bore 7, olf-center to said matrix block into which a solid compression plunger 8 is slidably fitted. Surrounding the mate rix block is a ring 9l frictionally slidable thereon and provided on its side with an internally threaded bore 10, receiving therein a handle 11, provided with a threaded end portion 12. The handle 11 terminating in a smooth rim 13, is of a diameter to snugly tit within the mouth 6 of the chamber 2, being adapted to close the same.

upon the metal die and centrally inserted into the die chamber 2 of the matrix block 1, diametrically to its axis iilled with mouldine or other' suitable matrix material. The chamber by aid of the ring 9 and the handle 11 threaded. therein, is closed by a few inward turns of the said handle to allow its rim 13 to enter and close the chamber mouth 6. The head of the plunger 8 is now struck two or three good blows, commencing with light strokes and increasing to heavy. The uniform force of the hammer blows effected in my improved swaging device is evidenced by the fact that I am able to lswage the heaviest crowns of gold or its alloys used in dentistry upon a metal die, and eiTect absolute adaptation of the crowns to the finest lines of the model without injury to the crown metal.
That I claim:
1. In a swaging device comprising a cylindrical matrix block with a frusto-conical die chamber and having an Vopening on the side wall of said block,l the said opening being of sufficient size to permit the insertion, and removal of a die, a mass of mouldine contained in said chamber, a longitudinal off-center bore extending from said chamber, a solid compression plunger slidable in said bore and projecting into said die chamber, a ring slidable on said block, a handle threaded into said ring and of a diameter to snugly iit into the opening of said die chamber.
2. In a swaging device comprising a matrix block with an inwardly extending frustoconical die chamber, an opening or mouth in the side wall of said block, a mass of plastic material contained in said chamber, an upwardly extending longitudinal bore from said chamber, off-center tosaid block, a solid plunger slidably fitted into said bore and projecting into said chamber, a ring slidable on said block, a handle threaded into the side of said ring and adapted to close the mouth, or opening of the die chamber in the side wall of the matrix block.
