Description

1 FOE.
PETER HO\VELL,'GF BLACK RIVERFLSLLS, \VISOONSIN,
lMPROVEMENT IN SCREW-FORNHNG MACHENES Specification forming part of Letters PatentNo. 150,241, dated April 28, 1874 application filed October 4, 1873. v
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that 1, PETER, H. HOWELL, of Black River Falls, in the county of Jackson and State of \Visconsin, have invented a new and Improved Attachment to Swaging-lilachines, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved attachment to swaging-machine's; and Fig. 2, an end VlGW of the same, part1 in section, on the line 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters ot'reference indicate corre sponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide the. swaging-machines'in common use with a guide attachment, by which stove and other pipes may be produced with screw-ihrezu'ls. so that they maybe readily put together and disconnected, and the slipping of the same or escape of ashes or sparks be effectually prevented.
My machine consists of two main standards, which carry a vertically and laterally adj ustable arm with two wheels, on which the stove or other pipe is placed and fed, undersuitable inclination, to the swaging-machine.
A, in the drawing, represents the bench 13, the swagin g-machine, ot'ordinary construction U, the standards which carry, in the longitudinal direction of swaging-machine A, the arm 1). One standa-rd,. G, is placed below the swagingunachine, the other at suitable distance from it, both standards being vertically adjustable, by screws or otherwise, in bench A, to raise or lower arm 0 for pipes of difi'ereut diameters. B, is bent to. extend to standard 0 below the same, being connected to it by hole and pin 'lhecnd of arm 1), near swagc 1 a. The other flattened end of arm I) rests in i a recess, 1), of gage-block b, which is laterally adjustable by thumb-screw d in guide-casing- E of standard 0. Two or more wheels, F,-of suitable diameters to correspond with diflerent sizes of pipes, are placed loosely on' arm D, and the pipe, of sheet-iron or other suitable metal, slipped on the same by lifting arm-l) out of recess 1/, and turning it sidewise. 0n replacing arm 1) the proper height and an gie of inclination is given to the same by stand ards (J and thumb-screw (I, so that on introducing the pipe between the burrs of the swaging-niachine in the usual manner, and
turning the crank, the pipe is fed to them, and
ent-
In combination with an ordinary snaggingmachine and supporting-bench, the standard 0, carrying an arm, D, upon which are mounted wheels l the standards and arm being, respectively, vertically and laterally ad justable, to form threads on different sizes of pi pcs, and with diii'erent pitches, substantially as shown and described.
