PATENT onuca.
JOHN VAUDREU'IL, MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
DISHWASHER.
Application filed February 15, 1922. Serial No. 586,627.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN VAUDREUIL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dishwashers, of which the followin is a description, reference being had to t e accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
This invention relates to dish-washing machines and more particularly tothe casin or housing portion thereof.
he object of the invention is to provide a casing having one or more revolving doors afiording access to the interior of the casing and so associated with the stationary parts of the casingasto prevent the leakage of the washing fluid from the casing.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the device hereinafter described and all equivalents.
In the drawings: Fi 1 is an elevation view of a device embo ying the invention; Fi 2 is a section taken on the line 22 of%ig. 1; Fig. 3 is a plan view; Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2; Fi 5 is a vertical sectional view of a modifi form of device; Fig. 6 is a plan view of the device shown in Fig. 5; Fig. 7 is a section taken on the line 7-7 of Fig. 5.
Referrin to Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive, the numeral 8 esignates the base portion of the casin provided with cylindrical portions 9 an 10 and annular flanges 11 and 12. A fixed inner casin section 13 has its lower edge riveted or ot erwise suitably secured to the portion 9 and extends about half-way round said portion 9 and preferably has a hemispherical portion 14 emerging into a semicylindrical portion 15. A fixed outer casing section 16 has its lower'edge riveted or otherwise suitably secured to the portion 10 and extends about half-way round said portion 9 and preferably has a hemispherical portion 17 merging into a semicylindrical portion 18. The portion 9 being of less diameter than the portion 10, the inner section 13 is spaced from the outer section 16 about the width of the flange 12. The sections 13 and 16 have bosses 19 and 20, respectivel adjacent pivot openings 21 and 22. ith this construction su stantially half of the casing above the base is open.
' A movable casing section or door 23, of
"a shape and size to move within the space between the sections 13 and 16 and to cover the half-open casing and overlap the inner edges of said sections as at 24, has its lower edge slightly above the flange 12 and is pivotally mounted at its top upon a pivot pin 25 passing through the openings 21 and 22, said pin having washers 26 mounted thereon and spacing the fixed and movable sections apart. When the door is turned, as by a handle 27, to its closed portion, shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the water from the spraying device 28 is confined within the casing and such water as gets in between the sections of the casing or upon the flange 12 is drained back into the base by providing openings 29 in the casing section 13 and openings 30 in a semicylindrical guide band 31 secured to the portion 10.
The base portion 8 has apertured bosses 32 secured thereto receiving the le s 33 of rods 34 which form supports for t e dishcarrying basket 35 which in the present instance is disposed above the spraying or washing device 28. When the door 23 is turned to open position, as shown in Fig. 4, the basket 35 may be readily removed from or replaced in the machine.
Referring to Figs. 5 to 7, inclusive, this construction has a base portion'36, similar to the base 8, and inner and outer fixed casing sections 37 and 38, respectively, mounted on and secured to the base portion in the same manner as the sections 13 and 16 are connected to the base 8. These sections 37 and 38 are thus spaced apart and they are of spheroidally curved formation and formed to provide diametrically disposed openings 39, whereby a dish-carrying basket may be introduced into the. interior through one of these openin s and removed through the other opening, t e rods 40, similar to the rods 34 and similarly mounted on the base portion, forming a support for the basket. Arcuate guide bands 41 are secured to the. base portion in the openings 39. Drain openings 42 are provided in sand bands and drain openings 43 are provided in the inner casing 37. v
A movable casing section or door 44, of a shape and size to move within the space hetween the sections 37 and 38, covers the flange 47 of the base portion. The fixed casing sections and the door have alined openings in their tops receivin a pivot bolt 48 and washers 49 space the car from the fixed sections at this point. When the door 44 is turned, as by a handle 50, to closed position, shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the water from the Washing device is con'fined within the casing, and such water as gets in between the sections of the casing or upon the flange 47 is drained back into the base by passage through the drain openings 42 or 48. When the door is turned to open position, as shown in Fig. 7, the basket may be removed or replaced from either side of the machine or introduced through one side and taken out at the other side.
In each instance I prefer to mount the casing upon a tripod 51 and the water supply pipe 52 for the spraying device comes in below the base to the central part thereof and a drain pipe 53 also connects with an opening 54 in the base portion of the casing. As the spraying device does not constitute a part of the present invention, it has not been described in detail. The casing, however, has been designed withparticular regard for those types of spraying devices which direct the washing water or fluid upwardly upon the dishes in the basket.
It will be noted that in each instance the casing includes a base portion and a domeshaped upper portion formed or fixed casing sections and a movable door section, and that the fixed and movable sections of the casing overlap to prevent the passage of water from the casing when the door section is closed.
wearer What I claim as my invention is:
I. In a dish-washing machine, the combination of a fixed oasin provided with an opening, and a movab e door completing said casing and pivotally connected to the top thereof, a part of the casing having a double wall receiving the door when said door is moved to open position, the edges of the door projecting into the space between said double walls when in closed position.
2. In a dish-washing machine, an enclosing casing comprising a base and an upper structure forming the top and side portions of the casing, said upper structure comprising fixed casing sections spaced apart, and a movable casing section forming a door, said movable section being pivotally mounted at its to between the fixed sections.
3. n a dish-washing machine, an enclosing casing including double walls at the side and top of the casing and an annular flange between said Walls, and a door completing the casing and pivotally connected at the top between said walls, said door passing between said double walls when moved to open position and having its edges projecting into the space between said walls when in closed position.
4. In a dish-washing machine, an enclosing casing comprising a base portion and a dome-shaped structure mounted on said base portion, said dome-shaped structure including fixed casing sections, and a sliding door section pivoted to the top of said fixed sections and movable between them to establish a passage through said casing.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JUHN VAIIDREUIL.
