COMBINATION SHOWER BATH.

State f New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Conn bination Shower Bath, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to baths of the shower type and the primary object of the invention is to provide an improved shower bath embodying an overhead shower or spray and a lower shower ring or spray, the overhead shower or spray being so constructed as to permit the same to be swung into and out operative position.
Another prime object of the invention is to provide an improved bath embodying a ring spray or shower to encircle the body, and novel means for raising and lowering the ring spray, so as to permit all parts of the body to be reached or treated by the spray.
A further prime object of the, invention is-to provide a combination overhead spray and a ring spray, and means for permitting simultaneous or independent use of either one of the same.
A further prime object of the invention is to provide novel means for permitting air to be injected into the water going to the overhea and ring spray, so as to make the spray have a snappy or forcible effect on the body of the person taking the shower bat-h.
A further prime object of the invention is to provide an improved shower bath, which is particularly adapted for use for medicinal purposes. the improved bath' being so arranged as to stimulate blood circulation.
A still further objectof the inyention is to provide an improved shower bath of the above character. whichywill be durable.

Referring to the drawings I in. detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,* the letter A generally indicates the improved shower bath, which einbodies an overhead spray and a lower ring spray C, and means D for permitting the raising and lowering of the said sprays.

This pipe 21 slidably extends through a suitable stuffing box 22 carried by the upper end of the pipe 20. In order to add rigidity to the structurea coupling 23 is provided for connecting the cylinder 7 with the said pipe 20.
I In order to permit the raising and lowering of the sliding pipe 21 the same is connected with the piston 8, through the medium of a suitable coupling 24. The upper end of the slide pipe 21 supports a coupling 25 to which is connected the feed pipe 26 for the overhead shower B and the feed pipe 27 forthe ring shower C. As shown the feed pipe 26 is connected by means of an elbow 28 to a horizontally disposed pipe 29, to which the shower or spray B is directly connected. This overhead sprayoB can be of the ordinary rose nozzle type if so desired and it can be seen that the said spray can be swung on the elbow 28 so as to bring the same into and out of operative position over the head of the person taking the shower bath. The flow of water to the feed pipe 26 is controlled by a suitable valve 30 interposed in the length of the said pipe.
The feed pipe 27 of the ring shower C is connected by means of a T-coupling 31 to a vertically disposed water delivering pipe 32. This pipe 32 extends in spaced parallel relation to the standard 11 and cylinder 7 and the extreme lower end thereof carries ring spray C. The ring spray C is of such a diameter as to permit the same to completely encircle the body of the person taking the bath and is preferably detachably connected to the lower end of the pipe 32, so that the diiferent ring sprays can be connected with the said pipe having different sized outlet openings. The flow of. water to the pipe 32 is controlled by a suitable globe valve 33 which is interposed in the length of the pipe 32. Now it is obvious that after the hot and cold water is mixed in the chamber 12 that the same will flow up the slide pipe 21 into the pipes 29 and 32.
In order to permit the intaking of air in the pipe 32 to be mixed with the water flowing thereto, the upper end of the T-coupling 31 supports any preferred type ott'air valve 34. It is obvious that when the air valve 34 is open that the flow of, water through the pipe 32 will suck in air tl'ierethrough. The mixing of the air with the water tends to make the discharge through the ring spray C have a snappy effect and breaks up the water into small particles.
In order to permit the draining of the water from the pipes above the mixing chamber 12, when the valves 15 and 16 have been closed, I provide a drain valve 35 which has communication with the mixing chamber 12 adjacent to. the lower end thereof and if 'so desired, this drain valve can support a gauge glass 36 for indicating whether'there is any water in the pipes above the mixing chamber.
As heretofore stated any preferred means can be used for raising and lowering the piston 8, and as shown I provide a water supply pipe 40 which communicates with the cold water pipe 14 and the lower end of the cylinder 7 below the piston 8. The flow of water through the pipe 40 is controlled by means of a suitable hand operated globe valve 41. Now it is obvious that when the valve 41 is opened that water is permitted to flow to the pipe 40 and into the cylinder 7 below the piston 8, which will cause the raising thereof and consequently the raising of the ring shower C and the overhead shower or spray B. During the raising of the piston 8 a certain amount of water will flow into the cylinder through the port 10, for a purpose, which will now be described. When it is desired to bring about the lowering of the piston 8 and the parts carried thereby, an outlet valve 45 which is interposed in the length of the pipe 40 between the valve 41 and cylinder 7 is opened and the valve 41 closed, which will permit the draining of all of the water from the lower end of the cylinder. The water contained in the piston 8 will of course add weight to said. piston and thus permit the quicker lowering of the piston and the parts carried thereby.
By first operating one valve and then the other the continuous raising and lowering of the piston 8 will be accomplished. The valve stem 46 of the valve 45 is preferably extended a relatively high position, so as to permit the easy manipulation there of and this stem can be provided with a manipulating handle 47.
I preferably provide a guide 50 for the lower end of the pipe 32, so as to insure durability to the device. As shown this guide 50 includes collars 51 and 52, which are adapted to engage respectively the pipe 32 and the standard 11. These collars 51 and 52 are connected together by any preferred means. The collar 51 preferably carries a screw 53 for impinging against the pipe 32, so that the guide will be raised and lowered therewith.
From the foregoing description, itcan be seen that I have provided a shower bath embodyin means for permitting the raising and lowering of a spray, so that all parts of the body will be reached therebv.
Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirt or the scope of this invention.

1. A shower bath comprising an overhead spray, a ring-shaped spray for. encircling the body, and hydraulic means for automatically raising and lowering said sprays. H g
2. A shower bath comprising an overhead spray, a lower body ring spray, means connecting the sprays together, and means for simultaneously raising and lowering said sprays during use of the bath.
3. A shower bath comprising a mixing chamber, hot and cold water inlet pipes communicating with the chamber, means for controlling the flow of water through said pipes, a stuffing box carried by the chamher, a pipe slidably carried by the stufiing box, a feed pipe connected with and disposed in parallel relation to the slide pipe, a spray carried by the feed pipe, and means for raising and lowering said slide pipe.
4. In a shower bath, a base plate, a cylinder carried by the base plate, a reciprocatory piston mounted within the cylinder, a mixing chamber, hot and cold water pipes communicating with the mixing chamber, a slide pipe adapted to extend into the mixing chamber, means connecting the piston with the slide pipe, sprays communicating with the slide pipe, and means for raising and lowering said piston.
5. A shower bath comprising a base plate, a cylinder carried by the base plate, a mixing chamber carried by the base plate, hot and cold water pipes communicating with the mixing chamber, a piston reciprocably mounted within the cylinder, a stuffing box carried by the upper end of the mixing chamber, a slide pipe reciprocably mounted within the stutfing 'box and adapted to communicate with the mixing chamber, means connecting the piston and the slide pipe together for synchronous movement, sprays communicating with the slide pipe, and means for connecting one of the water pipes with the lower end of the cylinder to permit the raising of the piston.
6. In a shower bath, a base plate, a cylinder carried by the base plate, a hollow piston reciprocably mounted within the cylinder having a relatively small port in the lower end thereof, a mixing chamber, hot and cold water pipes communicating with the mixing chamber, a slide pipe communicating with the mixing chamber, sprays communicating with the slide pipe and carried thereby, a branch pipe connecting the lower end of the cylinder with the cold water supply pipe, a valve for controlling the flow of water through said branch pipe, and means for training water from the lower end of the cylinder.
