WILSON A. HEARN, OF DYER STATION, TENNESSEE.
IMPRVEMENT IN SAW-SETS.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,15*?, dated April 2S, 1874 z application tiled March 31, 1874.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILSON A. HEARN, of Dyer Station, county of Gibson and- State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw-Sets, of which the following is a specication The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrongement of a device for setting saw-teeth, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
Inorder to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side view, partly in section, of my saw-set, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
A represents the stem or shank of my saw set, provided at one end with a handle, B, and slotted at the other end for a suitable distance. In this slot is inserted a bar, C, the lower end of which forms a hook, a, and the upper end provided with a iiange, b, projecting on each side and rear to rest upon the top of the shank. In front of the barfC, in the slot of the stem A, is inserted a bar, D, both ends of which are cut or provided with ottsets and bevels d, of diti'erent size and angles to suit the different degrees of set required. The bar D can be reversed and turned over so as to bring either side of either end opposite to the hook a of the bar C, and when adjusted up or down, as required, the two bars are fastened firmly by means of a set-screw, E, through the end of the stem A. Upon the main part of the stem A is placed a movable bar, G, the lower end of which is curved forward, as shown in Fig.
1, and the bar is held at any desired point upon the stem by means of a set-screw, H.
The various parts having been adjusted to the required set, the saw is to be held stationary in a clamp or other'suitable device, and each tooth in succession is passed between the hook a and the lower end of the bar D, up to the shoulder thereon, when the handle is pressed down until the end ot the bar G comes in contact with the saw-blade, when the' tooth is set.
By this device the teeth will obtain a perfectly uniform set, and the degree of set may be easily regulated by moving the bar G out or in, as required. The farther this bar is from the bars C D the greater will be the set.
This device is simple in construction, yet durable and effective in operation.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of the bar C, provided with the hook a, and the bar D, having shoulders and bevels d at each end, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of the slotted shank or stem A, bar C, with hook a, bar D, with shoulders and bevels b, bent bar G, and setscrews E H, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
