Description

Jul 15 1924. C. KUECHLER PUMP JA'CK File d Sept. 26. 1923 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented July 15, 1924.
-STATES CHARLES KUECHLER, O'F PRESCOTT, WISCONSIN.
PUMP JACK.
Application filed September 26, 1923. Serial No. 664,875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLEs KUECHLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Prescott, in the county of Pierce andState of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump Jacks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in pump jacks, its object being particularly to provide a construction of jack by means of which the lifting power is applied to the ump rod without efliciently reducing lateral everage, and to provide a supporting construction for the lifting levers, furnishing 1 rigidity of support, and so constructed as to be particularly easy of assembling and of lubrication.
To this end, my invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification:
Figure 1, is a front elevation of my invention applied to a pump jack.
Figure 2, is a top view of the same.
Figure 3, is a rear elevation of my invention applied to a pump jack, shown partly in section.
Figure 4, is a section on line 4-4 of Figure 3; and V Figure 5, is a side elevation partly broken away and in section.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a pump, and 2 the pump rod, the pump being suitably secured to the foundation as by bolts 4.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a base member 3, suitably secured to the foundation as by bolts 11. The base meniher, as shown best in Figure 2, is formed with a collar portion 5, partly encircling the base of the pump, a removable collar portion 6, partly encircling the other side of the pump base and being secured to the collar portion 5 as by bolts 7. The base is adapted to be further anchored to the pump as by a brace 8, secured at its lower end to the foundation and at its upper end tothe rear of the pump.
The central base portion 3 connects upon opposite sides with the bearing supports 9 for the shafts 10. The bearing supports 9 are anchored to the foundation as by the bolts 11, collars 12 being fitted upon the tops of the bearing supports 9 and secured thereto as by bolts 13. Journal bearings for the shafts 10 are thus secured between the bearing supports 9 and connected collars 12.
Mounted upon the front ends of the shafts 10 are the disks 14, to which disks the lever arms 15 have eccentric pivotal connection 16. The lever arms at their upper ends are pivotally connected to the cross arm 18 by.
means of the bolt 17 passing through opposite openings 20 in the lever arms, a plurality of the openings 20 being provided to secure desired adjustment. The cross arm, as shown in Figure 4, is composed of spaced members between which centrally passes the pump rod 2, a bolt 19 passing through the cross arm and pump rod.
The ends of the shafts 10, opposite to the disks 14, carry worm gears 21, positioned within the casings 22, supported by the bearing supporting bases 9. The casings 22 are provided with movable top covers 23, the covers 23 and the body of the casings 22 being constructed to form intermediate bearings 24 for the cross shaft 25. The shaft 25 supports worms 26 intermeshing with the worm gears 21. Supported upon one end of the shaft 25 are the idler and power pulleys 27 and 28.
The casings 22 are adapted to be kept filled with greases or oil to lubricate the worm gears and worms and the connected bearing for the shafts 10.
My construction has many advantages over the ordinary construction of pump jacks, among which advantages are the following:
The construction and arrangement of the central supporting base member 3 and integrall connected bearing bases 9, by means of which all the operating parts are held firmly placed in connection with each other and with the pump, and by means of which the actuating levers 15 are held in firmly placed position on opposite sides of the pump rod and lateral leverage upon the pump rod prevented. This construction also enables most effective lubrication of the actuating worm gears, worms, and shafts through the lubricant contained in the casings 22.
. The worm gears 26, as shown in Figure 3, actuate toward each other, preventing thrust upon the casings 22.
Power is applied in the ordinary way from any suitable source of power connected with the driving pulley.
I claim:
1. In combination with a pump and rod, pump jack mechanism comprising a base member centrally and detachably anchored to said pump, bearing base members integrally connected to the sides of the central base member, said bearing base members each including a shaft bearing, a shaft j ournaled in said bearing, a casing carried by each of said bearing base members and receiving one end of said shaft, a worm gear secured upon said shaft within said casing, inwardly directed worms within said casing intermeshing with said ears, a driveshaft connecting said worms, isks mounted upon the outer ends of said first mentioned shafts, lever arms eccentrically connected to said disks upon opposite sides of the pump rod, and a detachable connection between the upper end of said levers and said pump rod.
2. In combination with a pump and rod,
- a central base member detachably anchored to said pump, connected bearing supports upon the sides of said base member, each of said bearing supports including a casing, shafts journaled in said bearin supports and extending into said casing, ever arms positioned upon the outer side of said pump rod and detachably connected at their upper ends to said rod, actuating eccentrics for said and inwardly directed Worms carried by saiddrive shaft and intermeshing with said gears.
3. In combination with a pump and rod, a central base member having a collar portion partly encircling said pump, a clamping collar partly'encirclmg the opposite side of said pump and removably connected to said base member, laterally extending bearing bases carried by said central base member, said bearing bases each including a bearing for a shaft and a connected casing, shafts journaled in said bearings extending into said casings, lever arms positioned upon opposite sides of said pump rod, and a cross arm pivotally connecting the upper ends of said lever arms having a central detachable connection with the pump rod, actuating eccentrics carried by the outer ends of said shafts having pivotal connection with the lower ends of said levers, a drive shaft extending through said casings, an operative connection within said casings between said drive shaft and first mentioned shafts, and removable covers for'said casings.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CHARLES KUEGHLER.
