IMPROVEMENT IN PlANQ-FORTE INSULATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,11 2, dated April :21, 1874; application filed March 11, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES VIGNERON, of
the city and county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new Piano- Insulator; and I do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the drawings making a part of the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Figure 1 is a view in perspective. Fig. 2 is a view in cross-section.'
It is a well-known fact that the notes of a music-box, when supported upon glass tumblers, will be given forth with a much clearer and more ringing sound than if the box be set upon a carpeted floor.
The object of my invention is to provide a means for giving a similar improved effect to the notes of a piano-forte, melodeon, or other similar instrument.
A is a block of glass, sufficiently thick and strong to sustain one corner of the instrument which it is to support. If an insulator of this character be placed under each of the legs of a piano-forte, it will be found that the tone of the instrument is greatly improved. While glass is decidedly the best material for the purpose, a very excellent effect will be obtained from the use of similar insulators made of mineral composition, earthenware, metal, or even hard wood.
WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An insulator for piano-fortes and other heavy musical instruments, made with a re cess, B, to receive the foot of the leg of the instrument, the slits c, and a cavity or recess, D, upon the under side to break direct connection with the floor, substantially as described.
