STATE-$2 PATENT ic -j BLOOMFIELD H. HOWARD, or wasmNerombfirnrCr or COLUMBIA, AND- RNEST J.
. TURNER,-OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
rsaazsa r V CASTING FOB FEEDERS FOR ING-OT MOLDS.
Application filed February 15, 1924. Serial No. 693,094.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that BLOOMFIELD H. How- ARD and ERNEST J. TURNER, citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, at
Washington, District I of Columbia, and
Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Castings for Feeders for Ingot Molds, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in castings for feeders for ingot molds.
The object of our invention is to provide a casting for forming ingot mold feeders made of plastic material by forcing the plastic material under pressure through the passage in the casting whereby a complete feeder is made of a shapeto correspond to the feeder shown in an application of even date.
Another object of our invention is to provide a casting in which a feeder can be formed having a large number of walls, some of said walls adapted to form ribs on the outer face of the feeder for supporting the feeder on the mold and having a series of inner walls of approximately the same contour as that of the outer walls.
A further object of our invention is to provide a specially shaped casting adapted to form a correspondingly shaped feeder and having certain arrangement of walls hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a cylinder partly broken away showing our improved casting attached to the lower end. Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a View similar to Figure 2 showing a circular inner member.
Figure 4; is a sectional view of a modified form of casting.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4 showing a circular inner member. L
Referring now to the drawings 1 represents the lower end of the cylinder having an outwardly extending flange 2 to which is bolted the flange 3 carried by the outer member A of the casting. This outer member 4: is provided with four oppositely arranged straight walls 5, 6, 7 and 8 connected at each corner by the two diagonally arranged walls 9 and 10 which are connected 12 are beveled as indicated at 17 whereby the plastic material is compressed during its passage through the casting.
In Figure 3 we have shown the outer member of the same shape as that shown in Figure 2 and like reference numerals indicate like parts. The inner member however as indicated at 18 is of a circular form.
In Figure 4 like in the other figures the outer member of the casting has eight walls, the four opposite walls 19, 20, 21 and 22 are bellied inwardly and the walls 23, 24, 25 and 26 are also bellied inwardly and provided intermediate their ends with outwardly curved walls 27 which form the ribs on the outer face of the feeder. In this form the inner member 28 has eight inwardly bellied walls 29 connected by the outwardly curved walls 30.
In Figure 5 the outer member is constructed exactly like that shown'in Figure 4 and like'reference numerals indicate like parts, but the inner member 31 as shown is of a circular form.
Having thus fully described our invention what we claim is 1. A casting for feeders for ingot molds comprising an outer member having eight walls, four opposite walls of which are providedwith outwardly curved portions and an inner member having eight walls arranged parallel therewith.
2. A casting for feeders for ingot molds comprising an outer member having four oppositely arranged straight wallsconnected by oblique walls terminating in an outwardly curved wall andan inner member having eight straight walls.
3. A casting for feeders for ingot molds comprising an outer member having eight walls, four opposite Walls of which are pro vided with outwardly curved portions and an inner member having a circular outer wall.
4. A casting for feeders for ingot molds comprising an outer member having eight inwardly bellied Walls, four opposite Walls Walls having an outwardly curved Wall and having outwardly =cu lwed porhio-n s gmd an an All-1.1m member "hav ng a circular uter 1nne1' (member havlngelgl t lH'WRIKilIYbQZlhBd Wall. 1 10 Walls.
