In the manufacture and use of that lamp it developed that the cost of manufacture was somewhat costly and that the lamp was not as perfectly ventilated as was desirable as sometimes currents of cold air would pass through openings 36 would strike the' light bulb and cause it to break at such point and the lower part would fall upon and injure a person being treated. It is the obJct of m invention to produce a lamp in which a ded efiiciency is produced, the cost of manufacture reduced and the danger of the light bulb being broken by cold air diminished.
In the drawings forming a part of-thi's application Figure 1 is a central vertical section of the light bulb housin with a bulb therein and the socket part y in section. Figures 2 and 3 are side elevations of the. parts which make up the housin Figure 4 is a side elevation o a lamp stan partly in section supporting a casing. Figure 5 is a detail showing how two lamps may be mounted on a single standard.
. Referring to the drawings '6 is a bellshaped domein the top of which a socket 7 is mounted. Electrical insulated wires 8 lead into and are connected to the socket in the usual manner. To the bottom of the dome is secured a parabolic skirt or 'reflector 9. The dome and reflector are preferably integral, being spun from sheet Near the center of the dome and near the to of the reflector are vent ports 10 through which the air heated by the bulb passes. Secured to the bottom portion of the dome is a canopy-11 which surrounds reflector 9 and is spaced therefrom. This canopy is also preferably bell-shaped and those portions of its walls which project below the reflector have theirv inner surfaces formed into a satin finish reflector.
In the upper portion of the walls of recanop upper part thereof; a bella flector 9 is a row of ports 12 which permit the air between the reflector and canopy as it becomes heated to pass up into and out of the dome through the ports therein.
In Figure 4 I show the lamp standard as composed of the usual base 13 and ahollow post 14. At thetop of post 1 1 is a pulley 15 over which a cord 16 passes. One I end of the cord is attached to weight 17 which is movable in post 14 and the other end of the cord is attached to sleeve 18 slidably mounted on post 14. Sleeve 18 has a clampin lever 19 to, secure it to post 14 at any desired point. Secured" to and extending from sleeve 18 is a hollow arm 20 in which is mounted a sliding member 21 that is removably secured in a socket 22, which socket is secured, preferably to the A set screw 23 holds member 21 in soc et 22 and a set screw 24 holds member21 in arm 20 in its adjusted position. When the housing isseparated from member 21 socket 22 may be used as a handle.
Where two lamps are desired for a single. standard I! mount upon the outer end of arm 20 a cross bar 25 and a sliding bar 26 and pass through the ends of these bars longitudinal bars 27 on the ends of which are secured lamps as shown' in Figure 5 which are secured by having the ends of the bars passed into the sockets on the housings as in Figure 1.
By this construction it will be observed that a simpler and cheaper construction is provided and that the air which lies between the canopy and reflector becomes heated and'passes through the ports in the to of the reflector and on -u through the thereby preventing co (1 air from striking the light bulb.
Having described'my invention I claim:
1. In an electric lamp the combination of a parabolic reflector havin ports in the d dome secured to the top of said re ector having ports therein; a bulb socket mounted in said dome; and a canopy secured to the bottom of said dome, said canopysurroundomerents of heated air ass out of the dome andbpre'vent cold air from striking the light bul 2. In an electric lamp the combination of a dome having a skirt, said skirt flaring outwardly at the bottom and having its inner surface adapted to reflect the light; a canopy secured to saiddome above-the skirt and spaced therefrom and projectin below said skirt, the inner walls of said canopy being adapted to reflect light and means to mount said canopy adapted to hold the same in an elevated position.
3. The combination of a vented dome and skirt, the inner Walls of said skirt being adapted to reflect light said skirt flaring outwardly at the bottom a socket secured in said dome, -a canopy secured to said dome having an arm revoluble thereon; and' means to secure said dome upon said arm.
