F. MANGNER ATTACHMENT FOR MILK BOTTLES 2 Shanta-Shoot 2 Fred Mangvg er' Patented July 8, 1924.
UNITED STATES FEED HANG-NEH, or DEER, PARK, MARYLAND.
ATTACHMENT ron MILK BOTTLES.
Application filed August 28,1922. Serial No. 584,778.
To all whom it may concern: i
Be it known that I, FRED MANGNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Deer Park, in the county of Garrett and State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Milk Bottles, of which the following is a specification. 1
My v[present invention has reference to a holder for milk jars. 1
. My object is to produce a means for holdmg amilk jar-to prevent the removal thereof by other than authorized persons.
A further object is to produce a device of this character designed to prevent the stealth of jars of milk in which a shaft revoluble in one direction only is mounted on one side of a door frame, the said shaft carrying at its outer end a ring through which the neck of the milk bottle is inserted, and thereafter turned to permit of the bottle resting on the sill for the door, the said bottle being sustained against further turning in the same direction, even a when the bottle is elevated above the sill by the contact of the said bottle with the door for the frame, when the latter is closed, so that it is necessary to open the door before the shaft and bottle can be further turned to permit of the removal of the bottle from the ring.
The foregoing, and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and operative association of parts, such as is disclosed by the drawings which accompany and which form part of this specification.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a suflicient portion of a door frame to illustrate the application of the improvement, the door being in closed and locked position.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the door open and the ring carrying shaft turned to permit of the removal of the bottle therefrom.
Figure 3 is a front elevation showing the ring swung on its shaft to an out-of-theway vertical position.
Figure 4 is a view showing a holder for two milk bottles.
Figure 5 is a sectional View Q11 the 116 55 of Figure 3.
Figure Gis a sectional view on the line 66 of Figure. 5. g
One-of the vertical members of a door frame is indicated, in the drawings, by the numeral v1 and the door. which swings closed against the frame member 1 by the numeral 2. On the frame 2, at a's'uitable distance above the sill 3 I secure a disk 4. This. disk forms the base fora casing -5. The casing is provided with a peripheral ring flange 6 which overlies the disk and is riveted thereto. Both the flange 6 and thedisk 1 are provided with aligning openings, through which pass securing means 7.
The. body ofthe casing 6 is bulged outwardly with respect to the flange 5, the said casing being preferably round in plan. Journaled in a bearing opening in the center of the disk 4 and passing through a bearing opening in the center of the casing 1 there is a shaft 8. Suitable means is provided for holding the shaft against longitudinal movement. On the shaft there is secured a ratchet wheel 9. Pivoted to the disk there is a pawl 10. This pawl is influenced by a spring 11 to engage the teeth of the ratchet 9 whereby the shaft 8 is held from turning except in one direction. The shaft 8 has its outer end slotted, as at 11, and the wall provided by the slot is arranged at an angle, as indicated by the numeral 12. Designed to be received in the slot 11 and to be pivoted thereto by an element 13 is a tongue 14. The tongue 14 has its outer end cut at an angle, as indicated by the numeral 15, the said angle end of the tongue designed to contact with the angle inner wall 12 of the slot 11 in the shaft 8 whereby the tongue 14: is held against swinging on the shaft except in one direction. The tongue 14 has its outer end provided with or riveted thereto a ring member 16. The
casing and shaft 8 are disposed a deter mined distance above the sill 13. The shaft, as previously stated, can be turned in only one direction. The ring can be arranged at any desired angle so that the milkman can insert the neck 17 of a milk bottle 18 therethrough and further turned so that the bottom of the milk bottle will rest on the sill 13. It is, of course, to be understood that the milk bottle can be slid in an upward vertical direction through the ring 16 suflicient to permit of the further turning solutely necessary that the door 2 be swung to open position before the milk bottle can be further turned to permit of the withdrawal thereof through the ring 16.
If desired, a tongue 19, of a similar construction to the tongue 14, engaging the shaft 8 in a manner previous to that described, may be provided with a frame 20, the'said frame may have at its ends ring members 21, whereby two milk bottles may be received and locked in a manner as above described. As a matter of fact the frame 20 may be provided with any desired number of rounded openings or ends, and it is thought that the foregoing description, when taken in connection 7 with the drawings will fully set forth the construcshelf, or that the bottle will be held a suflicient distance above a door step to permit of the door swinging without the bottle contarting with the weather strip. Also by reversing the toothed wheel 9 the device may be arranged to either side of a door.
Having described the invention, I claim A device for the purpose set forth, comprising a fixed casing, a shaft journaled therein and projecting therethrough, a pivotally supported ring on the outer end of the shaft normally pendent therefrom and susceptible to swinging to longitudinal alignment therewith when swung in one direction only, a ratchet wheel fixed on the shaft in the casing, and a spring pawl in the casing engaging the ratchet wheel.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
FRED MANGNER.
