IMPROVEMENT IN TILE-BRICK MOLDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149.957. dated April 21, 1874; application filed March 2l, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J oHN SHEEEELEE, of the city of Joliet, in W ill county and State of Illinois, have invented certain Improvements in Tile-Brick Molds, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in so constructing a brick-mold as to mold a halt'- round cavity the length of one side of a brick, along its center, so that, by placing two bricks together at their grooved sides, they may be -used as tile for drainage purposes, the construction and operation of which I will proceed to explain, reference being had to the annexed dra-wings, making' a part ot' this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a vertical sectional view, through thecenter of one of the molds.
In the drawing, c represents the main frame of the mold, divided into several parts by the partitions r. Operating in the open spaces between the partitions 1" are. the sliding slotted bottoms s, attached to the upper movable frame e, as shown. The bottoms s have firmly attached to them the half-round core af, running along the middle the entire length, as shown in Fig'. l, which core makes a cavity in the brick, along one side, of the size and shape of the core.
In order to successfully use the mold, itis necessary to force the bottom s forward out oi' the frame c, so as to discharge the brick without its clinging' to the sides. Fig. 1 represents the bottoms s partially forced out. No ordinary mold that is not provided with a movable bottom will successfully discharge the brick. By constructing brick in this way, they may be used as tile for drainage purposes.
I am aware of the patent of Samuel Shi-eti'- ler, dated March 13, 1866, for brick-molds, which I disclaim; but
What I do claim as new, and desire to sccure by Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:
The half-round cores a, in combination with the slotted sliding bottom s, frame c, and frame c, having partitions 1', constructed, operating, and arranged as and for the purposes set forth.
