Application filed February 9, 1923. Serial No. 618,135.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Bonner T, SUDDEN- hour, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Can Structures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in can structures and more particularly to means for connecting casters thereto,on object of the invention being to provide simple, substantial and eflicient supporting devices for connecting casters with a can or receptacle in a manner to guard against accidental disconnection of such supporting devices and the casters from the can or becoming loose.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claim.

A can or receptacle is indicated at 1 and provided at its bottom with a band which forms a flange 2 depending from the bottom 3 of the can or receptacle. y
The can is supported upon a plurality of casters 1 (four such casters being shown in the drawings) and each caster is connected with the flange 2 of the can through the medium of a supporting bracket 5. As all of the supporting brackets 5 are the same in construction, a specific description of one will suffice.
Each supporting bracket 5 comprises a slightly curved plate or casting 6 having at its intermediate portion an enlargement 7 in which a socket 8 is formed to receive the spindle 9 of a caster structure 10. The plate or casting 6 is provided at respective sides of the intermediate enlargement 7 with holes 11 for the passage of rivets 12 which secure the device to the flange 2 of the can. The bracket 5 may be recessed as at 13 so that the portions of the plate 6 at respective sides of the enlargement 7 only bear directly against the inner face of the can flange 2. At its lower edge the plate or casting 6 of the bracket 5. is provided with a lateral flange 14 which, when the device is secured in place on the can flange, will be dis osed to engage the lower edge of said can ange and this will result in avoiding shearing of the rivets when weighty material is placed in the can.
By referring particularly to Fig. 2, it will be noted that the bottom edge of the can abuts'the top edge of the bracket so that the strain imposed upon the caster is transmitted directly thereto through the bracket in such a manner that the rivets connecting the bracket to the flange or band of the can do not have to carry any weight and are called upon merely to retain thebracketin place. Moreover, the bracket has an extended bearing against the flange and the bottom edge of the can so that any possible tendency of the spindle and bracket to rock is effectually overcome.
Slight changes might be made in the details of construction of my improvements without departing from the spirit of my invention and hence I do not wish to be restricted to the precise details herein set forth.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
