THOMAS A. VITALLO, or sonnnnc'rnnr, New YORK.
REGISTER r'on BARBER snore, ETC.
Application filed October 20, 1921. Serial No. 509,125.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, THOMAS A. VITALLO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Schenectady, in the county of Schenectady and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Registers for Barber Shops, Etc, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to recording devices, and more specifically to an improved register for barber shops and similar places of business where customers, patients, etc., have to wait their respective turns.
One object of the invention is to provide an improved, comparatively simple and inexpensive, and thoroughly practical device for visually dividing a strip of paper into a series of cards, each card being, a convenient size and shape to receive only a single signature. I
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character with a simple and very effective means for holding a roll of paper in position to feed an unwound portion thereof through a passage which comprises a platen, at oneside, and a. grating at the opposite side; this grate constituting the means for visually dividing the paper into name cards; the invention also including a simple and efiective means for severing the cards, one by one, as the customers or patients arrive or retire.
A further object is to provide a device of this character in which the platen and I grate are hinged to one another in such manner that fresh rolls of paper can be quickly, easily and conventionally applied in position for use.
Other objects and advantages will be pointed out or implied in the following details of description in connection with the accompanying drawings in which 1 Figure 1 is a front elevation;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view;
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view along the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring to these drawings in detail, in which similar reference characters correspond to similar parts throughout the several views, and in which a roll of writingv paper is indicated at 5, the invention consists of the construction and arrangement of parts, in connection with the roll of paper, as will now be specifically pointed out.
A platen 6 has a grating 7 hinged thereto at 8, this grating or frame comprising a series of spaced, parallel and horizontal bars 9 which are also spaced from the platen 6 a slight distance which is su'i'ficient to provide a passage through which the unwinding end' of the strip of paper 5 is caused to pass by the owner pulling its extreme lower or forward end beyond the end of the passage, as illustrated. The platen or frame or both may be provided with a cutting edge 7 against which the paper may be pulled laterally for severing the free card 5 from the confined cards 5 that is, the cards which remain in the passage between the platen and grate after the card 5 has been extended to the position shown.
The grate 7 is provided with spring clips '10 which engage with the opposite edge of the platen 6 from the hinge 8. These clips normally hold the platen and grate in position for forming the paper-passage, but when they are disengaged from the platen, the grate can be swung on the hinge 8, and the unwound portion of a roll of paper can be placed against the platen while the wound portion is passed axially into the cylinder 11 which constitutes a holder for the paper-roll. This cylinder is provided with a closure 12 which is removable for permitting the paper-roll to thus be inserted, and is also provided with an axially parallel slot 13 which communicates with the paper-passage.
- According to the present disclosure of my invention, the roll holder 11 is united with the frame or grate 7 but it is not beyond the scope of this invention to otherwise sup port the roll holder at one end of the pas-w sage. Moreover, it is not intended to limit this invention to the exact details of construction and arrangement shown and specifled, but changes may be madewithin the scope ofthe inventive idea as implied and claimed.
What I claim as my invention is The combination of a platen, a frame secured to one edge of the platen and normally extending thereacross in spaced relations thereto to providea passage, a cylinder on one end of said frame and having an axially parallel slot normally in communication with said passage, said cylinder receiving a roll of paper which frictionally engages With the bottom of the cylinder to retard the feeding of the paper through said passage, said frame including a series of bars suliiciently spaced from one another to provide openings through which persons can Write their names on the paper against said platen, and. means, at the opposite end of the frame from said cylinder, to sever the paper that bears one name from the paper that nears other names.
In testimony whereof, I, afiiX my signature.
THOMAS A. VITALLO.
