MEANS FOR POLISHING- METALS.
N 0 Drawing.
Application filed Augustll, 1921. Serial No. 491,568.
(GRANTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE ACT OF MARCH 3, 1 321, 41 STAT. 13., 1313.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THORVALD OLSEN AAL- GAARD, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Ganddalen, Norway, have invented 5 a new and useful Means for Polishing Metals (for which I have filed application in Norway June 22, 1918, and in Denmark March 29, 1921), of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a met-a1 polish containing cleaning and scouring substances and a luster-imparting substance consisting of onion juice.
As cleaning and scouring substances may be used soap, kerosene, water, carbonate of soda, and sand; but also other suitable ingredients may be used. The onion juice is of special importance as it renders a durable brilliance to the metal.
I am aware that a composition containing onion juice has been used for washing clothes. This composition however has not contained scouring substances, pose and the way of using it is entirely different from my invention.
The polish may be prepared in difiierent ways and in any desired consistency, either as a liquid, a paste or a dry powder. It is preferably prepared in the following way:
50 gr. sliced onions are boiled for five minutes in 1000 gr. water, whereupon the onions are taken away, 1000 gr. of fine sand and 500 of soap powder, comprising soap and sodium carbonate, are added, and the mixture is then stirred until it has attained the consistency of a paste, whereupon it is boiled for live minutes. This paste is then dried and afterwards ground into a fine powder and is now ready for use.
and its pur preparing the polish mixed thoroughly with comprising soap and whereupon kerosene is added and the mixture is left quiet for half an hour. Then the surplus kerosene is poured ofhand 35 gr. onion juice is added, whereupon the mixture is boiled for five minutes, while being evenly stirred about. The stirring about is continued While the mixture is being cooled. hen it is quite cold it has the consistency of a paste and is ready for use. It is applied in a thin cover on a cloth and 1s whereupon the article a dry, clean cloth.
I claim: r
The herein described method of polishing metals which consists in applying to such metals a polish comprising cleaning and scouring substances anda luster imparting substance consisting of onion juice.
In testimonywhereof I have signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
