Be it known that I, FREDERICK A. O'rTow, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Devices for Coding and Decoding Telephotographs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for coding and decoding telephotographs, and the purpose of my invention is the provision of a device of this character which greatly simplifies the coding and decoding operations, while at the same time having a ca pacity greatly exceeding similar devices heretofore proposed.
l will describe two forms of devices enr bodying my invention and will then point out the novel features thereof in claims.

Figure 1 is a view showing in front elevation one form of device embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevation of the device shown in Figure 1, partly in section.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view partly in section showing the latching means for the table comprised in the device shown in the preceding views.
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view of a portion of the paper securing means comprised in the device.
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary sectional view of the paper securing means.
Figure 7 is a view showing in end elevation another form of device embodying my invention.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts in each of the several views.
Referring specifically to the drawings my invention in its present embodiment comprises a suitable support or base B upon which are secured spaced standards S formed of metal and preferably filigreed as clearly shown in Figure 2. The journal in the standards is a shaft A, and keyed or otherwise secured to the shaft between the standards are sleeves 15 formed on the ends of iligreed arms 17 which constitute the side portions of a table T. These arms are of substantially triangular formation with one edge curved in the form of an arc, and these curved edges connected by a curved top 18. The shaft A is adapted to be manually rotated by means of a wheel W and to thereby elfect movement. of the table T between the standards S. The weight of the table T is counter-balanced by weights 19 secured to collars 2O keyed to the shaft A in the maner clearly shown in Figure 5.
The table top 18 is adapted to support a sheet of paper thereon, and this sheet is adapted to be held in fully extended position and contiguous to the top by strips or bars21 mounted on screws 22 rotatably {itted in the upper and lower edges of the table top, all as clearly shown in Figures 1, 4 and 6. By this arrangement it will be seen that the strips 21 are adjustable toward and away from the top 18 to engage or disengage the ends of a sheet of paper in securing the same in overlying relation to the top.
As clearly shown in Figure 1, the standards S are spanned by a straight bar 23 se cured at its ends to the standards as at 24 and in overlying relation to the table top 18. A curved bar 25 is secured to one end of the table top 18, and this bar as well as the bar 23 is formed with graduations arranged transversely in the bars as clearly shown. The table T is adapted to be latched in any adjusted position by a spring pressed pin 26 mounted on one of the standards S and adapted for engagement within any one of a plurality of notches 27 formed in one of the y arms 17. As clearly shown in Figure 3, the notches 27 are formed at intervals corresponding to the graduations of the bar 25 so that when the table T is in latched posi* tion, its position with respect to the bar 23 can be accurately determined. 4
In the operation of the device, a sheet of paper containing the photograph to be coded is clamped upon the table top in the manner previously described. By first moving the pin 26 to released position, the table can then be swung by rotation of the wheel W so as to present any desired point of the photograph in close proximity to the bar 23 and by noting the position of this point on the bar 23 and the relative position of the table on the bar 25, the corresponding graduations in the two scales are given cured to these end portions 28 are standards 29 in Which a shaft 30 is journaled. This shaft carries a table T which is of circular form, that is the table is of tubular form 'and its ends are secured to end portions 3l. The table T is adapted to support the photograph or other subject to be coded, and is provided With a graduated bar 32 adapted to function in the same `manner as the bar 25 of the first form of device. The sta-ndards 29 also carry a graduated bar 33 similar to the bar 23. One of the standards 29 is provided with a spring pressed pin 34 graph to be coded, and at the same time permitting of the photograph to be moved to any desired position with equal facility.
Although I have herein shown and described only tWo forms of devices embodying my invention, it is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be made herein Without departing from the spirit of the invention and the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

A device of the character described comprising a table supported for movement to occupy various positions and having `a curved top disposed concentrically of the axis of movement of the table, a scale on the table, and a second scale sustained adjacent the table and disposed at an angle to the first scale.
