Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. WoLr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boulder, in the county of Boulder and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Air Moistener, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to attachments for internal combustion engines, and more particularly to an attachment designed for use in connection with the carburetor for moistening the charge entering the intake manifold of the engine. 7
An object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will automatically regulate the amount of moisture entering the intake manifold, according to the speed of the motor.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is'claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the
reference character 5 designates the outer or main receptacle of the attachment which has an offset portion 6 constituting an overflow device communicating with the main receptacle or casing through the opening 7 so that the water level within the main receptacle may be maintained in spaced relation with the bottom wall of the inner receptacle 8.
This inner receptacle is preferably circular in cross section to conform to the shape of the main receptacle 5, the walls of the inner receptacle being disposed in spaced re lation with the walls of the main receptacle to provide passageways to permit air to pass.

A pipe 9 has communication with the interior of the main receptacle 5, and has one extremity thereof disposed within the heating chamber 10, which is in the form'of a relatively long box-like member secured to the exhaust manifold 11 of the motor, so that air passing through the heating chamber 10 will be heated by contact with the manifold and pass into the main receptacle 5 in a heated condition.
Operating within the inner receptacle 8 is a reciprocating valve member 12 adapted to control the supply of air through the opening 18 formed at the base of the valve cage 8, there being provided a rod 14, of a length equal to the length of the inner receptacle 8, on which the valve 12 operates, the rod 1 1 being however secured within the inner chamber 8, as by means of the cross bars 15' and 16 which are'secured to the valve cage 8 and disposed at opposite ends thereof. These bars 15 and 16 maybe secured in position as by welding.
From the foregoing it is obvious that as the pistons move within theircylinders, the. valve member 12 is moved to open the passageway betwen the main receptacle and valve cage 8, the valve'of course opening a greater distance, owing to the increased suction caused by the speeding up of the motor, to the end that a greater quantity of moisture is fed to thecarburetor, to meet the increased demand. h
