Application filed November 11; 1922. Serial No..600,280.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY NAnDoNn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilkes-Barre, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in trousers and it is an object of the invention to provide trousers constructed in a novel and improved manner whereby the waist line may be expanded or contracted as may berequired without destroying the balanceof the trousers.
Furthermore it is an object of the invention to provide trousers constructed in a novel and improved manner wherein the side pockets, upon alteration at the waist line, are at the same position as before such alteration.
An additional object of the invention is to provide trousers constructed in a novel and improved manner wherein the side seams are adapted to provide means for altering the waist line of the trousers in a manner to effect shrinking or enlarging together with a lining, for holding the seams in a flattened condition so that the trousers adjacent the seams are prevented from becoming bulging or otherwise unsightly or ungainly.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved trousers whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary view in perspective illustrating trousers constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; and
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
As disclosed in the accompanying drt w ings, A denotes the upper portions of the seams 1 and are rear seam 2. The seams 1 of the upper portions of the leg, sections embody folds 3, the folds 3 of each of the.
rear sections beingrelatively wideso that the folds of the rear sections maybeemployed in contracting or expanding :the waist portion of the trousers without throwin the trousers out of balance.
Fach ofthe side scams 1 adjacent the waist line of the trousers and for a desired distance therealong is interrupted .or open as at 4 to provide an entrance to the pocket 5, said pocket 5 being .carriedentirely by a front section whereby as thetrousers contract or expand the position of the pocket is not affected.
The pocket has associated therewith the trimmings or facings 6 and one of said trimmings or facings is secured to and overlies the inside face of the inner wall of the pocket said facing having its outer marginal portion secured to the trousers, such securement being comprised in the side seam 1 connecting the front and rear sections of the trousers. The free marginal portion of the outer wall of the pocket, which is herein disclosed as comprising the second facing or trimming 6, is secured to the front section of the trousers. By this arrangement the pocket is secured entirely to the front section whereby the desired adjustment of the trousers at the waist line may be effected without the necessity of interfering in any way with the applied pocket or in other words the applied pocket offers no hinderance or obstruction to the required adjustment of the trousers at the waist line.
lVhen it is desired to contract or expand the waist line of the trousers or to effect a shrinking or enlarging as referred to in shop terms, the operator need only cut the seams 1 and then adjust the folds or turns 3 of the rear sections as may be required in order to accomplish the desired fit.
By this operation it will be particularly noted that the side pockets are not affected in any way so that after the side seams have been resewed the balance of the trousers is maintained due to the fact that the side pockets are not moved forwardly or rearwardly with respect to the side scams.
7 denotes a waist band or lining associated with each section of the trousers and it is to be particularly noted that no one of the bands '7 laps or extends across a seam 1 but does overlie a turn or told 3 of a seam l comprised in the trouser section to which the hand is applied. This structure is particularly illustrated in the accompanying drawings and where it will be noted that each of the waist band sections or linings serves effectually to maintain the folds or turns 3 in a flattened condition so that th trousers adjacent the seams are prevented from bulging or otherwise becoming; unsightly or ungainly. Effecting an alternation it is to he noted that the band or lining 7 stitched to the fold or turn 3 of the rear section will be loosened but this only necessitates a further operation requiring but little time and labor.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that trousers constructed in accordance with my invention are particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which they may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and mor ification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself. to the precise arrangement and for mation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
1 claim:
In combination with a front section and a rear section of trousers and a side seam connecting the same. a pocket, a faring secured to and overlying the inside face of the inner wall of the pocket said facing: having its outer marginal portion secured to the trousers, such securement being com prised in the side seam connecting the said sections, the tree marginal portion of the outer wall of the pocket being secured to the front section of the trousers, said pocket being secured entirely to the front section.
In testimony whereof I hereunto a'tfiX my signature.
ANTHONY NAR'DONE.
