IMPROVEMENT IN BABY-EXERCISING CORSETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,692, dated April 14, 1874; application filed March '7, 1874.

My invention has for its object to furnish an improved device which will enable mothers,
nurses, and others having the care of children, to let them exercise by moving their limbswithout creeping about the floor, and which will enable them to learn to walk much sooner, and much more readily, than they could without its use. The invention consists in an improved baby-exercising. corset formed of two parts, connected in front by a cord or lace, and in the rear by cords, straps, or ribbons, and provided with long loops at their upper edges, as hereinafter fully described.
A and B are the two parts of the corset, the outer side of which maybe made of leather or strong cloth, and the inner side of silk or other soft material. padded or not, as may be desired, and may be ornamented to any extent or in any manner, as taste may dictate. The lower edges of the parts A B are concaved to fit upon the hips of the child, and their forward edges are connected with each other by a cord or lace, O, to the ends of which tassels may be attached.
The lace 0 enables the corset to be enlarged or'contracted to fit the child, and also enables The parts A B may be it to adjust itself to the form of the child. The corset is secured around the childs waist by cords, ribbons, or straps D, attached to the rear edges of the two parts, and tied or buckled together. To the upper edges of. the two parts A B are attached the ends of two cords, E, so as to form two long loops, through which the arms of the child pass, and by which the child is supported in an erectv position, the corset A B G D supporting its body.
With this device the child can be readily supported in an erect position, and allowed to exercise itself in the house, yard, or garden, without any danger of hurting itself, soiling its clothes, or wearying its mother or attend ant, the long loops E enabling the mother or attendant to support the child while standing in an erect position. By the use of this device, the child will soon learn the use of its limbs, and will be able to walk much sooner than it would without such use, the device enabling the mother to give just the assistance required, and when required.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The improved baby-exercising corset formed of the two parts A B, connected in front by the cord or lace C, and in the rear by cords, straps, or ribbons D, and provided with long loops E at their upper edges, substantially as herein shown and described.
