Description

CLOTHESRACK Filed Sept. 11 1922 INVENTOR Earl M Perry.
ZGIM/WB ATTORNEY Patented May 27, 1924.
EARL N. PER-CY, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR T FRANK L. POLLARD CO1, ING, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA, A CORPORATION OF CALIFORNIA.
CLOTHESRACK.
Application filed September 11, 1922.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EARL N. PERCY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oak-- land, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothesracks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved clothes rack.
The object of my invention is to provide a rack, which may be readily set up or taken down to be stored away that there may be no unsightly object in the yard and to keep the rack clean.
A further object of my invention is to i provide a rack which is simple in construction, light and easy to handle, and inexpensive to manufacture.
Referring to the drawing which forms a part of this specification:
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved rack.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary side view partly in section of the central portion of my rack.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary plan view of my rack.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a vertical supporting post, the bottom of which is squared as at 2 and fits within a box 3 which is set in the ground. The box 3 has a hinged cover 4: which prevents any dirt or water from eutering the boX when the post 1 is removed.
A hinge member 5 is rotatably mounted on the top of the post 1. Projecting from the member 5 are pairs of cars 6, 7, 8 and 9. Arm 10, 11, 12 and 13 are pivoted to the ears 6, 7, 8 and 9 respectively. Secured to the arms 10, 11, 12 and 13 are a plurality of ropes 14 upon which the clothes are hung.
A collar 15 is slidably mounted on the post 1 said collar having lugs 16, 17, 18 and 19 formed thereon. Pairs of struts 20, 21, 22
Serial No. 587,356.
and 23 are hinged to the lugs 16, 17, 1.8 and 19 by pins 24-. and to each side of the arms 10, 11, 12 and 13 respectively. Hooks 25 and 26 are hinged to ears 6 and 8 respectively and are adapted to engage the pins 2 1 of lugs 16 and 18 respectively whereby the collar 15 is maintained in the proper position to hold the arms 10, 11, 12 and 13 horizontally. The arms 10 to 13 and struts to 23 may be rotated about the post 1 as de. sired while hanging the clothes.
When it is desired to collapse the rack, the hooks and 26 are disengaged from the pins 24 and the collar 15 is drawn down wardly, which carries the struts and consequently the arms downwardly into a collapsed position. The struts being secured to either side of the arms allows said arms to fall parallel to the post 1 and form a more compact bundle.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A clothes rack comprising a post, means for supporting said post, a hinge member rotatably mounted on said post having lugs projecting from said member, arms pivotally attached to said lugs, hooks also pivotally attached to said lugs, a, collar rotatably and slidably mounted on said post,
lugs projecting from said collar, struts pivoted to said lugs and to said arms, said hooks being adapted to engage the pivot members on said collar for said struts.
2. A clothes rack comprising a post and means for supporting the same, a hinge member on said post, arms pivoted to said hinge member, a collar slidable on said post, pairs of lugs on said collar having registering openings therein, struts attached to each lug by a pin extending through the openings, said struts being pivoted to said arms, hooks pivoted to said hinge member and adapted to engage said pins.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
EARL N. PERCY.
